Evility -> Locking threads for inactivity (5/9/2008 2:44:39 AM)

I've always thought it was a good idea to lock threads after a certain amount of inactivity in them. Say 60 or 90 days with no additional posts. There is one female submissive who seems to be running around resurrecting old dead threads. Start a new thread if you want to discuss the topic again. Don't dredge one up from 2005.

Do you like or dislike that idea?

Don't care for the idea. There are a thousand things I'd rather see done than that. It's kind of like jaywalking, not a big deal.

Since such a feature could most likely be automated, I favor it at 90 days locked. Within 90 days I am willing to believe that a thread could be old but still topical.

Why bother? If you are going to start the SAME topic up exactly... why not just dredge up one of the old threads? Especialy if there are comments in there you find useful. Mind you, replying to the OP, who might not even be a member anymore, is useless... but old threads have some good information none the less. I dont see a point in locking them and having new threads started when one exists even if its a tad out of date.

Considering how much rehashing of old topics we have, I would just as soon see a necroed thread, which shows that a person can use the search function at least.    Is there a stickies function on this board?  That could be a job for LA....

Why do you care?

I have mixed feeling on revived threads. If it is a very long thread begun about a personal problem & somehow gets revived, I get irritated because of the effort being put in when the OP is no longer even here lol. Sooooo many people are told: search out your question on old threads, so in part I see it as natural that one gets revived in that manner. I dislike that reaction to a newbie, when they come in asking a question but only receive the advice of 'use the search button'. I see it, just as easy to type out the known answer as it is to type out the directions for using the search.Searching too can be iffy unless you happen to strike the perfect keywords (which rarely happens with me)
