Why not use that rubberized or silicone-ized material that already surrounds the petrol nozzle? It seems to me that either of those materials should hold up fairly well, as both are used in various products that come in contact with liquids. Even the RealDoll company uses them as the skin for their products. ;-) Using that material could also serve double-duty for your cap. Perhaps a drunk, horned-up guy going to a convenience market very early in the morning to fill up his auto's tank might look fondly at that cap and get an idea rather than attempting to take it out on the lone employee who's working at the time.
