Pollack's agent, Leslee Dart, said Pollack died of cancer Monday afternoon at his home in Pacific Palisades. Dart says Pollack was surrounded by his family.



Pollack's biggest success was the 1985 film "Out of Africa" starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep which won Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture.

I remembered the name, but I forgot what he did.  So I looked it up:

On that entire list of movies that he directed, I don't see one that I particularly liked.  I thought Out of Africa was boring as hell, and I never thought Tootsie was good.  It kind of makes me wonder why I remember that name so well.

He acted, as well. He was in Michael Clayton, most recently.
