Chloelicious -> wonder if..... (5/27/2008 6:42:56 AM)

......We' need to laugh or to cry, you will decide:

A German mother offer to sell her baby on eBay A German mother out her seven months baby for sell on eBay, a "joke" not very popular with social services who took the child after the incident, according to the police . The mother, Tanja, 23 years old, told the newspaper "Bild am Sonntag" that putting her son Merlin, for sale on Ebay, was "a joke" and she wanted to "just see if someone would make a bid".

The ad, placed on eBay earlier this week was accompanied by a photograph of the child, and stated: "My baby –Pick up in Person Only- "Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has become too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 28 inches long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a pram." Starting price one euro.

The police intervened after receiving phone calls from people who were worried by the bid, the auction was removed from the eBay site after two and a half hours.

The mother, who lives in a village in Bavaria, was quickly identified and her child taken by social services until the authorities decide on the matter next week.

According to police, both parents could be charged for "children trafficking".

Too bad people can't be charged for lack of a sense of humor and taking things all too seriously.

I wonder how satirist like Jonathan Swift ( and others, of course ) would have been received in this hyper PC age that we live in ?

I'm for "cleansing" all those who don't get my sense of humor.

Up against the wall, motherfuckers !

Reminds me of our public education system.

Cjan

recognise that this is not the funniest joke to do!!!!

Some people are having trouble for having children and this woman propose to sell hers for a bid. Sometime I wonder if  the government should not  make a "permit to have children".

cpK69 -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:03:07 AM)

I think if the police had gone through with trying to buy the baby, there would be no question as to whether it was meant as a joke or not. That way, if they are just “charge” happy, they could have gotten the parents for false advertising or something.

But then; where’s the drama?

Chloelicious -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:06:49 AM)

where’s the drama?

It is called human trafficking, that is the drama. You can't sell people on the internet or where ever.

The drama comes in, when people believe what they read, without knowing any facts; only what they are told.

Edited to add: Unless of course, you saw the bid yourself.... know the otherside of the story.

Chloe, The posting of an ad on EBay to sell an infant for one Euro is so patently ABSURD that no one with a sense of humor would take it seriously, imo. When people  intend to commit a crime, I assure you that they take precautions against getting caught...even the dumbest amongst them. Posting such an ad in such a public forum shows that the poster has no intention of actually commiting the crime of which she seems to be accused. For christ sake, it's like robbing a bank and leaving your business card. Sheesh...

Cuz we know everything ever written, is 100% true and unbiased................

LadyEllen -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:14:47 AM)

If such an offer was not something which from prior experience of humanity one could judge to be a possibly credible one, it could all have been very amusing indeed. But from what we've seen of humanity and still see today, such an offer must regrettably perhaps be deemed serious pending proof to the contrary.

Now then, anyone want to come over to my place and be cooked and eaten?

Yeah, that club wouldn't let me in; they said I think too much.

Go figure.

I doubt I would find it amusing either way. It is the fact that anyone who reads the story in the OP will assume it is true because it is written, that concerns me.

We are in the boat we are in, because of the assumption that one has done so, the next will too.

Soon we will all be locked up for what we might do. Oh wait…

Perhaps you should come here; I'm already in the frying pan.

sirsholly -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:26:23 AM)

i agree with Cjan that it was probably a joke.
However...there are some things that you simply do not do. Ever.

cjan -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:28:29 AM)

Ellen, I'm up for the being eaten part, but the cooked ? Nah. Unless your talking of parboiled, like in a hot tub ?

Btw, did anyone read the Jonathan Swift essay I linked to above in my first post ? It's titled "A Modest Proposal" and is quite well known .It was written and published, i.e., it must be true and taken seriously, right ?

KatyLied -> RE: wonder if..... (5/27/2008 7:33:52 AM)

What is the contractural obligation when you post something for sell on ebay?  If I'm not mistaken it is taken seriously.  If nothing else, the person who started the auction is allowing their bad parenting to show.

Sorry Cjan, but everyone knows boys have cooties and the only way you can eat them is cooked through; apart from the brains of course, which are usually pretty well fried already.
