one thing i suggest is a crockpot. They always come with a recipe book and are awesome for making chili, a pot roast, etc.

An excellent suggestion.  In addition to the recipe book that comes with it, you might also look at these:

YourHandMyAss,
congrats on learning to prepare epicurean delights!crock pot cooking is a great way to start because you do not have any understanding of cooking terms.
there was a time in my life i was so organictized that i  hand ground organic wheat berries for the bread i made twice a week and sprouted wheat berries for extra crunch.

my life probably will never be that simple again.

how does Krutauz(sp) freeze their panckes? i think tho that waffles freeze better.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Are there any not so expensive premade food delivery services out there? (6/1/2008 3:00:25 PM)

They use preservatives and stuff like that... stuff that is rather difficult to buy in reasonable amounts for the average person...
Ive tried freezing pancakes, and they was icky

christine1 -> RE: Are there any not so expensive premade food delivery services out there? (6/1/2008 3:03:55 PM)

waffles freeze up very nicely....i make a double batch every sunday for the week ahead for my son.   soups freeze well (add the pasta later if you want it).

i make a batch of bran muffins for myself and those are great out of the freezer, i'm sure other types would do just as well.

i'm with the crock pot enthusiasts though, there isn't an easier way to make a meal, and most of the time it's cheap too.  and it doesn't heat up your house to use one in the summer time.

everhope -> RE: Are there any not so expensive premade food delivery services out there? (6/1/2008 3:06:55 PM)

i haven't met a muffin yet that did not freeze well!

Pancakes are not diet food.  All starch and calories.  Then what you add on....well it makes them even worse.

I imagine though if you had some sort of tupperware or rubbermaid..maybe put a piece of wax paper between each pancake.  Just make sure it is air tight.
I don't know I make my pancakes from scratch...its just as easy to leave the batter in the refrigerator until I throw one onto the griddle.

we both agree piss is on our nourishment list.
(alright, kinda a hijack.)

I believe that every once in a while you need to stop worrying about what's healthy an what's not and what's diet food and what's not and simply eat for the pleasure of eating with out worrying about is it apropriate. Now granted, you shouldn't do it that often, and you should do extra exercise to make up for itm but I do believe every once in a while you just have to stop worrying and watching.

I like pot pies! are they overall pretty healthy though? Cause you look at your average microwavable stuff like hungry man tv dinners, and it's a thoughsand calories, 900 grams of salt, and the fat content isprobably through the roof too.

Heck no! They are LOADED w/fat!

**Eta the pot pies you buy in stores are full of fat, but if you google pot pie, you'll find some low fat recipes**

CalifChick -> RE: Are there any not so expensive premade food delivery services out there? (6/2/2008 11:53:56 AM)

When I make pancakes for the kids on the weekends, I always cook all the batter.  Let the uneaten pancakes cool thoroughly, layer them with waxed paper in between, and put them in a ziploc FREEZER bag (they're thicker than regular ziploc STORAGE bags), and make sure you get all the air out.  They will stay nicely for at least a week in the freezer.  The trick to reheating them is to spread them with a light coating of butter, spread them out on a plate, and nuke them for just a few seconds at a time, until they are hot all the way thru.

I always give the kids some protein to offset all the carbs and sugar in the cakes and syrup, although they often spread them with peanut butter.
