I've been hit with both. And in my opinion there are so many variables that it's almost impossible to really say one is worse than the other. It depends, really.
Although most people would probably classify the cane as nastier, I would disagree with that if you've been warmed up first and then caned, as opposed to being cropped on fresh untouched skin.
It depends on how much, how hard, for what duration, how many strokes etc. I would say the crop beatings I've taken were worse than any caning I've had, but both were delivered from different people, and under different circumstances. There is probably less risk in using the crop, however. And as with any of this stuff, obviously you should do it with someone you trust, who has at least half a brain.
