Reminds me of the time I lent one of my brothers friends my 58 cal Black Powder to bear hunt. He saw a bear comming at him and droped the gun and ran.
Heat tape does not always work even if it is new. I have a couple of neighbors who will attest to that.

I live in a 30 year old mobile home, and trust me, I swear by heat tape.....

Holly, I still say an elephant gun is a perfect way to keep the neighbor's goats from eating rose bushes....

Jeff, even if yer Mr. Grumpy Pants with a bad attitude, "lovely" is my perspective and I thnks yer all wonderful. So there.

And holly, we finally got power back yesterday afternoon, they don't know what happened. 3 of the 4 main lines into the region went down leaving about 75% of the area out of power. Bloody bad time of year for that to happen - it was cold!
