When I was a baby, my parents got a black cat. Having rather twisted senses of humor, and my name being Andrea (Andi), they figured the only logical name for the cat was Amos. Since then, any black cat in the family, regardless of gender, is named Amos..

(Amos and Andy is an old radio/tv show)

What's odd is that, after the first Amos.. we never have to go find a black cat.. they find us when it's time.  Amos V was abandoned by her mom in the woodpile behind our house.. she was too young to be weaned, but she had a prolapsed anus (which occasionally recurred over the course of her life).  Mom took her to the vet, and voila.. Amos V.
Shortly after V died, this one showed up.
I live next door to a concrete cutting company. They have large trucks and other heavy equipment. ONe day, as I was getting home from work, one of the  guys came to the fence and asked me if I had a black kitten.
"No... why?" I asked, suspiciously...
Another guy came from behind the dump truck, with a black fuzzball in his hand (yes, one hand).
"We found this running around the yard..we were afraid it'd get run over by one of the trucks..."
me (wondering when SUCKER was tattooed onto my forehead): "Gimme the damned cat"  *sigh*

thats been just about 3 yrs ago.

(I suspect that this Amos was actually the product of someones pet having an unexpected litter.. and the "we found it.." story was to gain my sympathy.. *runs to look in the mirror to see if that damned tattoo is visible...*)
