Oooooooo - that reminds me! I need to get the steaks marinating for tonight!  

Uhhhhh, steaks, mashed potatoes and salad? Or considering the heat (at least here) steaks, potato salad and salad? Tater tot casserole (thinking of Butterhead on that one - it's a kid-favourite). Or knowing your cooking skills, poached salmon filets with Hollandaise sauce, herbed red potatoes and ceasar salad?

Depending on if you like it meaty or just so, brown 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef, drain. Layer on bottom of 13"x9" pan, cover with cheddar cheese soup, mom used 1 can, I used used 1 can of cheddar cheese soup and 1 can of cream of celery or mushroom (just adds more sauce which my family liked) then complete layers with covering of tater tots. Bake at 350° about 45 minutes.

Suggestions would be to add mushrooms and onions into the beef while browning, a layer of green beans or peas, things like that. Basically, it's the type of recipe that you take and just make according to your family's preferences.

Easy, fairly cheap and ohhhhhhhh, so nummy!  Talk about comfort food!

Except the soup, that would slaughter the sodium content. It's just plain meat, potatoes in the form of tater tots, and any veggies you'd add. And the soup....

Umm. . . it might have something to do with my hatred of tater tots.  I will not be telling the other half about this recipie.  He likes tater tots.  Oh. . . and canned cheese soup?  You gotta be kidding me.  That is not even a food. 

Here is a recipie that the other half grew up with. . . 

Spam and Bean Cassarole:

In a 9X13X2 inch pan, spread 2 cans of pork'n'beans.  Add layer of sliced spam on top.  Layer with sliced american cheese.  Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. 

I refuse to make this as well.

Yep - my mom made the same thing without the cheese sauce. If you check the ingredient list of the tots, soups, and beef you will find that there is enough unhealty fats, sugar, sodium based salt, and empty calories to make it a highly unhealthy and addictive food. It sounds like it might be healthy and it is tasty (just love those high oil and salt tots) but when you check the facts it is very unhealthy.

Come to think of it have you ever heard the saying "Soup Is Good Food"? Go check a can of vegetable beef soup out. Empty calories. High fat. High sodium. No vitamins. Yet billions fall for the saying "Soup Is Good Food" and buy that canned junk and feed it to their families. Isn't that ironic? (From the song I'm playing over and over again.)
