Hey you medical types...

How the hell does a 51 year old still have a PDA?  I thought those were gone within a few days after birth?

Helmets are key. That and being able to hold your breath while you work with the current trying to put yourself back upright after being knocked upside down.

There's no feeling like it!
I agree...the raw power of the river is amazing, and you are just along for the ride! There is no feeling like it...[:)]

an fyi...Pa has some of the best white water there is, and so does West Va.

I'll ride shotgun... in my own kayak... thank you very much. Nothing good can come out of having all of the crazies in one raft. Besides, one of us needs to survive to tell the (tall) tales.
AYLEE!!!! Sappa won't ride with us!!!!!

How the heck do they stay in the boat sitting on the sides like that? I took a Boat Operations class last summer on the damn lake & fell overboard when they made a sharp turn!

dayum Potty...half the fun is trying not to fall out of the raft and not knowing if you do get bounced out!!!!!! Any reputable white water company will have highly experienced kyakers following close by in case someone does fall overboard and needs help.

It is okay.  We can make him take the glass jar of mayo for our sammiches with him so that he gets the ticket from the rangers instead of us.

Or. . . I can threaten to paddle him until he agrees to go in our raft.

Personal digital assistant?

Public display of affection?

Potato dextrose agar?

Public development authority?

I am confuzzled.

Pots...you really need to go to a place that has experienced guides.
Half of the battle is the seating and weight distribution in the raft, and that takes an experienced guide. Plus...the sense of security you have knowing there is someone on the raft that is trained and sober makes it more enjoyable.

when i was in grad school a group of us found out our psych professor was a white water guide on the weekends. We booked a raft and requested him. He nearly loaded his BVD's when he saw our drunken asses sitting in a raft, waiting for him. He actually looked at everyone and groaned...then focused on me and growled.

I told him if we did not receive passing grades from him, we would all be back the following year.

We passed. He was treated for a bleeding ulcer.

Patent Ductus Arteriosus (aka "persistence of fetal circulation")

I've heard of it in newborns, but didn't realize it could hang on so long in adults.

Rafting, oh yeah!  Nothing like the feeling of the heel of your sneaker jamming between two rocks, as you're being swept downstream....
