Korea is treating me great, thank you very much. I was at a bar just last night. nice little jazz club with a friend, drank a couple of beers, velvet couches, very posh and swanky. Had a lovely time.

None of my students or other professors have shown any kind of "god" mentality. They are in fact quite kind and supportive of me. A man even carried my backpack yesterday which was loaded with 200 - 8 page tests.

And soju? I like soju. I'm not a big drinker, but I enjoy it. It's like tequilla shooting without the amorous response.

I have been to a number of museums and galleries, palaces and private homes. I've received two gifts in the two months I've been here as a welcome from my employer. The Koreans I live with (but can barely communicate with) invite me to dinner, hiking, movies, and shopping with them. I have found a wonderful coffee shop that I simply adore where they keep my non dairy cream for my coffee and a gimbap shop where I have an account so I don't have to pay every day. The people at the bank helped me with opening a checking account and were ever so gracious to me when I lost my passport. I have had only one slightly negative experience with someone, and that was a misunderstanding that wasn't his fault or my fault - someone double booked a room, and I had to give an exam elsewhere.

The cherry blossoms are blooming - pink is everywhere, and there is industry and nature living in harmony in a way I've rarely seen elsewhere (if ever... come to think of it...never). I have made one Korean friend and am creating friendships with two other women. The uni vice president and one of the cleaning ladies have both sung with me spontaneously as we've run into each other in the hallway, and the president is (as you will recall) swoony.

Shahar, I'm hoping that all the stuff you wrote above was completely tongue in cheek. If it wasn't it sounds pretty xenophobic. So, I'm gonna go with the tongue in cheek presumption.

It was tongue in cheek. I remember several things fondly when I was stationed there.

Except the soju...I had a third of one mixed with pepsi. I admit that I did survive but it was an occurrence that I will never forgot (read a red silk robe and 2 guys having to carry me back to the barracks).

So handsome Mr. Kim and I go to a traditional place where he eats spicy fish soup, 5 different kinds of vegetables and rice. I had green tea. We both drank mokolay ( a yummy liquor that you drink out of a bowl, not a glass).

Yes, I'd like to go for a walk by the river if that's ok.

Oh? Where is the river.

I'll show you.

The river, darling Greedy girl, is lined with cherry blossom trees. I walked with a handsome man, and yes, some blossoms fell in my hair. He taught me how to say "where is the X" It is the first time anyone has ever taught me a pattern in Korean so I can now say about 50 sentences. Granted, theyy are all "where is the"... but this morning all I could say was "nice to meet you" and "can I have some water please?" I knew a few words that I could string together to communicate, but they were not sentences.

So, beauty, wonderful smell, handsome man, intellectually stimulating, and physical activity. Pretty darned good night, I'd say.

I left Korea without viewing the cherry blossoms. I had a miscarriage (twins), my grandfather died and my dad had a heart attack within a 2 month period. It threw me for a loop and started the first cycle of bipolar disorder (I did not know about bipolar at the time).

Doing pretty well. Butterhead has been using more words everyday and sentences up to 5 words. However she refuses to repeat most of the time and will not parrot you if you ask her to say something. Instead I get a look that seems to say, "I am not a trained monkey. I do not do 'tricks'."

She brought home her first rock the other day. And Tuesday she found 3 pine cones to carry home. That was funny to watch. She was walking very slowly and carefully in order to keep hold of them. Normally she pretty much runs everywhere. I want to get some spray adhesive and glitter to help her decorate them. Maybe some google-y eyes for the rock as well.

I never get a carafe from GW. I need a specific one being it is a 4 cup and I know I can get those at Wallyworld.

Besides, I am going to get a working dvd player. I hope Bo learned his lesson about buying things really cheap at the pawn shop.

ETA: Same with computers and garage sales...I am about to toss the ME computer into the trash unless there is a recycling place here in Austin.
