i think it is the texture of the meat as opposed to the flavor. LO will eat beef/chicken gravy on mashed( tho lumpy) potatoes or noodles...

Maybe I will just starve her until she eats it.

She will get hungry enough eventually, right?

Hmm. . . actually food is not a battle that I am willing to fight.  There are far too many women that have ended up with problems because food became an "issue" in their lives.

Of course, this attitude has shocked a couple of parents that are friends of ours.  Responding to their child's complaint of, "I don't like that."  "I do not want to eat that." "Ooooo, icky." or any other whingy complaint with, "Well there is that, PB&J or I guess that you won't be eating."  Seems to suprise them.  They seem to find it amazing that my response is NOT to make something else for their (spoiled) child to eat, but to let them go hungry.  But oh well.  They can cater to that behaviour at their own house, I do NOT have to.

On the other hand, when an adult has commented with an, "I don't like such and such" I also tell them that they do not have to eat it.

I do wonder who the heck taught these people that it was an acceptable way to behave.  *sigh*

My money's on pots who teaches people this!

It seems most parents run into the problem of the ums being fussy with foods. My own parental unit tried the "if you don't eat your veggies, then nothing until breakfast." That didn't work with me and she quickly abandoned that tactic. What she tried next and was successful was she compromised and stated that even if I ate just one tablespoon's worth then that was fine. To this day when I'm invited out and the host serves a veggie I quite dislike, I still take a spoonful to eat. amazing how parental teachings do remain when we're adults! Often an um will out grow a dislike for a certain food in most cases.

Bear,

I realize that all UMs go through stages of being picky.  It is when the parents allow them to refuse everything but pizza, steak, and chicken nuggets, that I refuse to put up with it by fixing an entire seperate meal, for one individual, after I have already spent my time and effort cooking dinner.

There are things to this day that I won't eat.  I just do not say anything and I just do not put it on my plate.  Or, like you, I will only take a very small amount.

But, goodness, there is something to be said for having manners, especially as a guest in someone else's house.

Thats just what i do!!!

'Course...then i open my mouth and let the food drip off my tongue back onto the plate...making gagging sounds the entire time.

One must always be a polite dinner guest.

I'm so glad we had this time together,
Just to have a laugh, and sing a song.
Seems we just got started and before we knew it
Came the time we had to say, 'So long.'

Good night, Everybody!
