Seems you almost 'insist' on the default settings for posts.  What, by chance, do you rely on for yr assertion that 'this is the easiest to read'?  i'm not aware of anthing of the kind.

Pick up a copy of "Elements of Style."  Look at the curriculum of any class on the basics of written communication.  Step 5 minutes into a "How to Write a Successful Newsletter" class.

I don't just make this stuff up.

Serif fonts (with the little "curlies" on the letters) are easiest to read because it helps lead your eye from one letter to the next.  Times Roman is the classic example of a serif font.  Because your eye has to travel from one letter to the next, and one line to the next, it is easiest to read left justified, because your eye returns to the same place (the left margin) each time.

Sans serif fonts (without the little "curlies" - the word 'sans' means 'without') are best used in headings, as they don't lead your eye from one letter/word to the next.  Arial is the classic example of a sans serif font.  Because headings are short, they can be left justified or centered.

myself, i post the way i post.  i dont have to explain it to anyone, but i might if its part of a related thread.  it is a very small deal.

sugar i think it would be nice if you came on a forum and didnt insult a bunch of people.  saw a fun post of yours on someone else's thread.  it would be good to see that side of you more.  there are always more frequent posters who have been there a while.  i have been on both sides of that.  it can feel like a clique but it's just friends talking to each other.  advice i have received when joining a forum, and pass on - be easy, let people get to know you, see if you like the feel of the forum.

peace out

Cali, all the posts i read show up in sans serif.  i like Times better too - and when i enter a new post, it appears in Times until i post it.  is there a reason everything shows up as Arial?  is there a setting i can change?
thank you

Even when I choose Times Roman on this site, it still comes out Arial.  So I gave up trying to change it.  I think it's an issue with my browser.

Camille, get the mop and get ready...

I've been editing newsletters in some form for about 20 years... scientific research journals (9 yrs, I don't do that anymore)... fiction (20 years, although not much at all anymore)...

i cannot help but wonder if you are covertly arguing that no member should use any of the functions CollarMe provides to alter the look of a post.  That may be what you choose to do.  What would give you any right to dictate to other members what they do?

The site rules already dictate this.

"Font size and color - I shouldn't have to say this, but please do not abuse the privilege of having larger font sizes. They should be used on rare occasions to perhaps emphasize a point or wish happy birthday. Entire posts should not be made in very large fonts. If we find you are abusing this privilege, we will take it away. We expect people to behave maturely. This same rule applies towards colors. Please do not use font colors that are difficult to read or have rainbow colored posts. Colors are permitted for emphasis on certain words and to add personality. If we find your post difficult to read due to color, we will change it all to black. We don't expect this to happen, because we trust that everyone here can behave like a mature adult. An exception would be in the random stupidity section. Use all the color you want there. These rules also apply to capitalization. Please use responsibly or your post will end up missing or in random stupidity regardless of content."

It's a pity that sentence isn't put into play more often.

~stef
