I have worked as audio engineer with some very well paid, very famous, creative people like song writers and advertising copy writers who fire up a joint when they draw a blank.

Good advice , imo. Natalie Goldberg wrote a book that was published about 20 years ago titled "Writing Down The Bones". I don't know if she still does, but she used to travel about the country giving writing workshops for women. Goldgerg also wrote as a spiritual practice. She has some interesting viewpoints regarding same.
