It depends on the amount of pain you are in. Studies have to be done regardless...if you don't do them someone else will.
There have been studies out there I would have absolutely loved my family members to be able to be involved in, primarily because they would still be alive today if they had been.
I've been involved in dental studies over the years. Never anything beyond that. They compensate you well, depending on what it is. Toothpaste...you got near 500 a year and free toothpaste and brushes for a year. Considering...the worst I was going to be put into was the typical flouride toothpaste that was already on the market versus the new and improved toothpaste. What did I have to lose?

So, weigh the pro's and the con's then do what is best for you. What is the absolute worst that can happen? Look at all of that.

By the way Pink...they already have listed side affects...because the drugs have been tested already. Just not on people...so ask them.

you have to be informed of any known side effects, that's known as full disclosure, anyone unwilling to share all known information about a drug in testing is running an unethical test and should be reported to the hospital sponsoring the test. i have taken part in long term investigational testing for diabetics at Metro. i get called back every couple years to submit to exams and blood tests for the studies i am in. due to the medications i already take i'm not eligible for drug trials, too many possible interactions. if you think the benefits would outweigh the risks, go for it.

You did not say whether you had tried Lyrica...

I would try to get a referral to a pain control clinic...often their holistic approach is a better fit for people dealing with complex pain issues...

also, sometimes with these drug studies you will be taking a drug that has been used for other applications previously...and so their side effect profiles are known.

A bit off topic but my experience with Lyrica so far is...it is merely the new wonder drug they are pushing hard. It does little to nothing to work. Although I'm an odd case as well.
I've had bone spurs in both feet for 25 years...went through all the meds back then. Then one day my doctor up and poisoned me...then mocked me asking me how I felt being poisoned. At that point I decided she was not for me.

Anyway...out of sight out of mind for 25 years. I'm now to the point I want surgery on my right foot. The doctor is taking me back through the pain killers once more. Nothing has worked including Lyrica..and the sort of new one. Celebrex.
The most I have taken in my entire life as far as pills go beyond vitamins is tylenols and excedrins for headaches...so not like I'm immune to anything either.

It does seem to work very well for some people and for other people not at all...

"The fact that I could do any lawn mowing at all is amazing and it is due to the Lyrica. So far the only side effects have been swollen feet/hands which is more than a bargain IMO."
