Himi -> Heels for Boots (Where to Get?) (10/28/2005 6:15:37 PM)

Hello

I have been thinking about making a pair of boots (leather and wrap around laces). It's fairly complicated but I think I have figured out most of it. My biggest problem is finding heels. No one seems to sell them anywhere, by themselves I mean.

One of my knowledge sources recommends buying old shoes at garage sales and reusing the heels. I'm not thrilled about this idea.

Also, I thought about making them out of wood but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I also worry about them not being strong enough and sounding really funny.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Himi

If these are special design, and not common, you go to a shoemakers store (actually a shoe repair shop) and they can build you a set of heels to your specs. I would not see any reason they would not do this, it is money for them to do so.

Do yo mean like stilleto heals(curves down to small point) or just regular boot heels that are essenctially straight, like on Cowboy boot or winter dress boots.
The later is usually made "simply"[:@] by stacking layers of sole leather together untill you get the desired effect, then some people cap it with rubber. They are usuallly held together with leather glue, I guess you could sew them but that sounds like alot of work.
Personally I have only made mocissans, but when I am done I like to get some of that dip they make for coating tool handles (oops now I'm sending you to the hardware store instead of the leather store), and put some on the bottom of my mocs to help with the traction.
I hope that helps, But if you are making stilleto ish heals I probably would use wood too. I mean when you buy a pair of high heels form the store aren't they usually made of some sort or high density rubber?
