MistressSybella -> Gor books? (6/9/2008 5:31:49 PM)

I'd like to read the Gor series. Does anyone have some copies they'd like to pass along? I've wanted to read them for years so I'd surely appreciate it.

You can find the Gor books on Amazon.com  That's where I bought my collection

LOL! Uhm...thanks, IB.

Some years ago, there were several people here who had them in electronic format, or who wanted to give away their collection. Of course, I could go to Amazon and buy them but I thought I'd ask here first. There are  many books in the series and just a couple of the books would be a nice start.

Be wary of anyone giving you a link to electronic copies of the books.  They are illegal and usually chocked full of typos and 'edits'.

I don't know if you are looking for free copies, but I would guess that would be very difficult to find.  I am afraid you shall have to buy them just like any other book you would like to acquire and read... maybe your local library has copies but I doubt it, but you can certainly find them on ebay or amazon.

I suggest looking at your local used book store, they can sometimes be found there.

Was my intial request or subsequent post rude or off-putting in any way? Because I'm picking up a sense of discourtesy that I feel it's entirely unwarrented.

I didn't ask where I can get the books, I asked if anyone HERE had some they'd like to pass along. (The amount paid for such a transaction would be between me and the person who offered, by the way.)

Of course, I can go to Amazon, Bibliofind, or anywhere else online, just like anyone else, and I do realize these books are difficult to find. These are reasons for posting my request here. Most importantly, those that have copies might like to pass along to someone with like interests, someone who would appreciate them for the rare treasures they are. It's not like one could hand them to a neighbor mixed within a bag of mysteries and bodice-rippers; it's harder to find homes for unwanted BDSM books.

I didn't realize I would be stepping on someone's toes by asking for BDSM books in a BDSM forum, under "Sought or for sale." So, pardon me!

If anyone else would like to reply, in a friendly way, I would appreciate the gesture.

Thanks, zeek. But I now live in a small town. We only have a couple Mom and Pop bookstores, nothing that would carry the Gor series. I never thought I'd miss Barnes and Noble or Borders but now I see I took them for granted. ;)

I am sorry if you found my reply in some way aggressive or unfriendly.  It was really quite blandly offered.  My thoughts regarding actually having to purchase the material and pointing out that electronic handouts were a copyright infringement stemmed from something in your post:

Good luck finding what you seek.

I think it's quite amusing that jen uses "puella" and then Jessie has a Latin quote in his sig. :)

Apology accepted jen.

Thanks Jessie! ::)

It seems that it would be useful for me to make a few comments about ebooks.

It's often thought that ebooks are just like printed books, and can be sold or given away without a problem, but that is NOT true. The reason for that is that when you buy an ebook, what you actually pay for is a licence to read it, similar to software licences. That licence only applies to the purchaser and is not transferable.

So, please do not ask for, or offer, electronic copies of the Gor books, as it is illegal both to give them away and to 'share' them (puella is correct about that). You can, however, ask where they can be legitimately purchased, to which the answer is www.fictionwise.com. You can also, of course, both ask for and offer the printed Gor books, as that is entirely legal.

Just for clarification purposes, I was asking for books. And, if you read my posts, I have been all along. The ebook format comment came out by way of conversation, in reference to something posted a while ago. Never did I once say, "Does anyone have some ebook files they can forward to me?" and surely it isn't against copyright laws to mention that they had been offered in the past.

Sleep well, Simon. ;)

*wink* Sometimes the dynamics of an online forum catch us by surprise.

Jessie has a handful to send me but he is missing the first two. So, if someone has those, please, please speak up! :)
