Fight Fight Fight, lol everyone has their opinions on what they feel is better or real. Some want function others just want good looks and each of those carry their own kinks. So enjoy everyones opinion and differences, unless it is going to cause someone to do something dangerous I just stand to the side and watch thier opinions. Too many people think that kink has to be one way, a D/s Relationship can only be one way and type. Well guess what, it doesn't work for everyone and let them make it their own, and enjoy themselves.

EriuSloane -> RE: Does anyone know where i can find some good books on rope bondage (6/26/2008 12:42:16 AM)

I will second Two Knotty Boys "Showing You The Ropes", Jay Wisemans "Erotic Bondage" and Lee (Bridgett) Harringtons "Shibari You Can Use"

Lee was out here about two weeks ago and presented his PassionBound 6 hour rope intensive to our community, which is a pre-req to his suspension intensive, and learned some cool rope ideas. My Sir loves rope and he knew pretty much all the knots and ties but helped me learn the basics since I had an interest. Lee's book covers a lot and the Knotty Boys/Jay Wiseman are great for beginners.

As someone who loves suspension bondage I can say it is the submissive.  You are at the complete mercy of the person suspending you.  It isn't just for show at all.

Search : knots. Learn bowline (non-tightening loop); double half-hitch,  half-hitch and Lark's Head hitch.   These knots are simple and easily un-tie (maybe add a Hackamore tie to your repertoire which is used to hold a mare to a stable & unites with a simple one-hand pull).

These knots are all very simple, safe and can be tightened in a controlled manner. "Boyscouts" site shows animated version of knots progresssing step-by-step (ironic and funny isn't it..boys will be boys!).

Then search: "shibari".  Merely a compilation of these knots.

SAFETY: Never put a tightening knot around a neck. Best advice is use a collar on neck which has a ring for attaching rope (via Larkhead or cows hitch). Also use 3/8" nylon- it is not too skinny (therefore won't cut)  and feels soft.  Also unties easily. Melt ends to keep lines from unravelling- do not come into contact with molten ends or you will peel away a several layers of skin!.

Next: begin providing moderate level of cocktails to g/f; always use in a small circular motion (using fingers or tongue) to reduce initial reistance; then proceed to introduce ropes (technically "lines")

If the dining room table won't suffice, you can easily make a "Tieing Station" in one-hour. Make a sawhorse, using 2x4's cut at 22° angles for the legs, and a 10" board for the top. Add a couple of braces for stability and for tieing to.  Drill 1" holes around legs/braces for anchoring your bowline or hitches.  If you are a week-end warrrior use a router along the top edeges for comfort or staple a piece of carpet on the under side of the top b-4 attaching.

Feel free to email me for > details. Degree of difficulty is  Easy/"Level 1".

~sigh~ ...... not the scouting knot crap again .....

First of all, good bondage isnt abotu knots in the first place. Coil coil coil coil coil. If you use knots at all it is only to hold the coils in place.

Secondly, scouting knots are abotu the worst posiable thing you can do to yourself when learning erotic bondage.

The scouts is a paramilitart orgnization with difrent ranks. To move up the ranks you have to demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to folow a list of instructions. If scouting knots actualy were 'simple' then everyone would be able to tie them right and everyone would pass the tests and move up in the ranks. Scouting knots are hard and they are hard for a reason. They are hard because they are used as a test.

Teach a square knot. If the kid ties a granny you know they cant pay attention to detail or folow instructions. Its also easy for the grownup to take what the kid has tied and 'grade the test' at a single look. The quare knot makes a great test, but it is not and will not be a 'general purpose' knot. Read the history of the dutch fluyt for the love of pete.

A bowline for bondage? The only reason I can even think of that you would need a fixed-loop knot for bedroom play is onve extremely spicific form of takedown play. But even then a farmers loop is easier to tie, less prone to jamming, is more secure, holds in a wider range of material, and wont capsize no matter what direction the lead is put. You might posiably convince me that a bowline is needed as a ~steping stone~ to learning a few bondage cuffs. But even then, the reversed method of tying a french bowline or a portiguse bowline is way better than the crappy 'memorize this list of instructions and you pass the test' brainwashing the boyscouts dish out.

Ok, no, just no.  The bowline is not a good rope bondage knot, at all.  Some people use a french bowline as a single limb cuff, and if they know how to do it, thats just fine, never tie any limb with a single rope around it(yes, thats right I called it a rope, because im not on a F***ing boat).  Also, any knot that unties with a single tug in rope bondage is probably not a good idea, any style of knot like that, the tail needs to be wrapped and tucked so it doesn't come undone by accident.

Never use a rough drilled hole as a tie point on a piece of furniture, pulling your rope through will not only damage the rope, but pick up splinters that will eventually get shoved into someones skin.

I wouldnt give "advice" to anyone just learning about using the neck as an attachment point.

Basicly agree with TheHungryTiger.

My Bosses do lots of stuff for the Boyscouts and brought in the Boyscouts Manual and I happen to come across the Rope Tying Section.

It is a GREAT place to teach you how to tie working knots and hitches that allow you to connect people to other things.

I was impresses because it was well done. sure some of them will take some doing because the step by step is not as clear as it could be but it is well done.

I coppied it all out and gave then a Half Truth story that the last time I tried to tie a Bowline it didn't go that well which was true only I was tying a person and not tying down a trailer.

Anywhich way I expressed my love for tying knots and now I will be teaching some 35 Boyscouts how to tie knots next month.

FUN FUN FUN.
