The study, released Monday, says about 26 percent of New York City adults have genital herpes, compared to about 19 percent nationwide.

Genital herpes is quite frequently asymptomatic. The only way you would know if you had it would be to get tested for it. It's so common in most cases when you voluntarily seek an STI test the herpes tests aren't included.
