As Y/you may know, i generally use a verdana/size 4/color purple font.

Lately, when i have been posting a link or s'thing, the use of these choices is either not available (couldn't get purple) or changes the width of my post way beyond normal, making it impossible for P/pl to read unless T/they use the slider bar.

Can A/anyone explain to me how to avoid this problem?

Stop using obnoxious font sizes and colors. Seems to work for everyone else.

I would have expected these answers, pinksugarbabe, considering that people often give you this answer unbidden, on completely unrelated threads.
My dear part time sub sister uses a MUCH more eclectic font choice in her yahoo chat when we are chatting, it is a sliding rainbow of color that changes along a spectrum line from letter to letter, with an itailicy, almost cursive, curley-que font. the only time it annoys me is when i need to cut and paste something she has said. when you highlight her font - well, the puter knows you have highlighted it, so cut and pasting works, but it does not really show up as highlighted, so it makes it hard to get what you want.
I wish i coudl help you. You might have to accept the need to chose a differant font for those times. good luck.
