I'm voting Democrat because I feel that criminials should be better armed than law abiding citizens, and that their rights are more important than mine.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel people SHOULD be treated differently because of the color of their skin, with lowered standards for those who just aren't capable of learning, or being productive members of society.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel America is what's wrong with the world.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel that the only reason socialism has failed every time it's tried is because the wrong people have been in charge.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel the government should play an ever-increasing role in the smallest details of my daily personal life, right down to how long it takes for the lights to come on in my hallway.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel that smart people who work hard and succeed need to be punished for that.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel that even people who don't try should be winners, too.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel appointed judges make much better laws than voters, or the representatives they elect.

I'm voting Democrat because I feel that looking good in press releases about problems is much more important than actually solving them.

Heretic, Too Funny!!!
Especially the one about "socialism never working."

I was just reading an article in Yahoo News about how Algore after endorsing Obama "may not neccessarily be with him on the campaign trail" due to various reasons.
It said that Gore waited until after the primaries to endorse Obama so as not to "further aggravate a cool relationship with the Clintons."
"Cool?" The Democrats don't even like each other now?
It just keeps getting better and better.

Seems there`s a bit of amnisia going around.lol

Seven and a half years, wasn`t that long ago.

Just to remind folks,we had it pretty good under Clinton.

Personal savings was going up ,along with the standard of living.

Wages were out pacing inflation and consumer debt was going down.

Clinton left office with the largest surplus in American history, three and a half trillion dollars.

Bush has spent us into the poor house and left us with the biggest debt in American history, three and a half trillion dollars.

I think there is a difference and the record is plain to see.

WTF happened to the 7 trillion, anyway?

Where the fuck is the money?

Actually, i am not a Dem or a Repub...but i am so sick of people getting all Capulet-Mantague about parties.  i liked the Clinton years fiscally...i liked McCain's rebel spirit when the GOP pretty much made him out to be persona non grata and tried to tank him.(another case for the amnesia theory i suppose)  i like tougher prison sentences for certain criminals and harsher rules for repeat offenders.  i like 2nd amendment rights, and yet reasonable waiting periods and less assault weapons being available to any disgruntled nut with a chip on his shoulder, or a grudge against his ex-wife.  Do we really think solely along party lines, or aren't the lines blurred according to issue?  Saying Bush was better than Clinton economically is like admitting to the world you have your head strategically placed up your ass.  Saying McCain is Bush the second is a downright lie...where is the honesty to one's self in all this?

Owner, I agree with you but you have to consider all the damage that Nafta and outsourcing and "free trade" has done to us.
I'd gladly trade what we "have" now for the Clinton years again!
I could still buy clothing that was made in the U.S.A. then! And it was good stuff too, not like the shirts you get today that end up as car rags a year later that are made in China.
I was looking forward to the Clintons getting into the W.H.!
Hillary sending the secret service to find Bill in the arms of another.
No matter what anyone says they *were* entertaining!
But, I'm looking forward to the circus of socialism that the DNC will hold in August.
For Obama wanting to talk to our enemies and wanting to double foreign aid will go over like pushing a naked guy into a  room full of cactuses and turning out the lights!
I mean what would Obama say to Osama?
At least we *know* what McCain would "say" to Osama!
Each presidential election it seems like the Dem candidate is trying to "out global socialise" the Dem candidate from 4 years previous.
It's like they think they're running for "president of the world" or something and Obama is going down the same road only faster.
Like they say, "it's like watching a train wreck....."
I'm an Independant.
If I were a Dem I'd be pissed!

Ken, I actually stopped at 2 but there were quite a few links.  The dems in many places are quite illmannered and rabid.    Your earlier assertion that dems don't spew hate as much as their counterparts was flawed.  They are just as guilty.  To say that all on either side are saintly or that all on either side are rabid assholes would be completely false.

Here's the thing, you're not going to find major figures on the left inciting violence against conservatives. There simply isn't anyone comparable to Hannity, Coulter or Limbaugh on the left as far as hateful speech with violent overtones.

You can put up minor demonstrations that got a little rough but I can remind you that the GOP brought in Congressional staffers to 'protest' to disrupt the Florida recount.

You can say obscure liberal x said something nasty about conservatives and I'll simply invite you to read Coulter's books or read a transcript of some of Hannity's statements.

I pay attention to this sort of thing and there is no balance to this. The right wings spokesmen and pundits include some people who routinely toss off incitements to violence against those they disagree with while the leftists may no longer be speaking nicely about the GOP, decades of people urging others to kill you will do that, but we're not out there calling for the murder or deportation of the conservatives.

Owner, ask the lawyers and lobbyists in DC and the "contractors" in Iraq.
It probably went the way of the $22-$24B that the "U.N." *still* can't find.
Why rob banks when you don't need a gun to rob U.S. Taxpayers and it pays WAY better?

It seems to me, there is a prevailing idea that all the other countries in the world are our enemies, simply for not agreeing with the foreign policy carried out by the present administration.  Whether it's McCain or Obama, as far as most of the world is concerned America's "got some 'splainin' to do..."  Cactii aside...
I mean what would Obama say to Osama?
At least we *know* what McCain would "say" to Osama!
Do you?  Or do you hypothesize?  For instance, i know i wondered why the hell Bush and his boys never addressed the Saudi role in Al Qaida...the fact that most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi nationals etc.  Did you *know* that would happen?
Each presidential election it seems like the Dem candidate is trying to "out global socialise" the Dem candidate from 4 years previous.
It's like they think they're running for "president of the world" or something and Obama is going down the same road only faster.

Fear of a global- minded leader is a sort of antiquated idea.  As much as we'd like to go back to the safe, simple days of isolationism, the fact is Pearl Harbor blew that idea out of the water---literally.  The U.S. is a part of the global scene.  i think it pisses people off more that we are no longer viewed as the example of democracy and fiscal health that we were before.  Sometimes people sound like recalcitrant bullies..."if  America's not #1, i'm taking my ball and going home!"
I'm an Independant.
i'm an Independent.  i also try to be an open-minded, progressive, independent thinker.  The pack mentality just never sat comfortably with me.
If I were a Dem I'd be pissed!
As an American...the past 8 years have pretty much pissed me off.  That being said, perhaps i'm too benevolent; i don't blame McCain for any of Bush's shit.  As far as i can recall, he was pretty much the G.O.P whipping boy during much of Bush's administration.
At the same time...belittling Obama for being a brilliant legal scholar(as was Thomas Jefferson and John Adams) or for thinking globally (as did F.D.R. and Truman...hell even Reagan)  seems a bit like bandwagon thinking at it's best.

Popeye, the following isn't aimed at any particular person just a group mindset.

i wish people would have the intelligent discussion, instead of always arriving at the lowest common denominator.  For instance...Obama has three years in the senate and has worked as a lawyer.  Is that enough experience?  i wonder.  But here i have seen monkey t shirt inferences, jokes, long-winded tales about how everyone in one certain part of Texas is the most vile racist hahaha slip in some jokes and funny experiences then back off..."but not me"... have seen people called rag-heads, islamists, remarks about "those people" and my personal favorite, the KKK family reunion...you name it, it's been seen here.  i find it disheartening that Americans are in general so poorly educated and uninformed about our own political systems that we can't begin to fathom foreign policy or systems of government.  Alot of the criticism i see of Obama is often made by those who make racist, bigoted , religiously prejudiced statements...however thinly veiled.  i wonder if people know how they come across?  Or is it so far gone, that they really don't care.  At least with the blatant hate mongerers there is that sense of honesty...it's actually refreshing.  Like the difference between a pile of dog shit right out in the open, and the pile hidden in tall grass.

edited to add...i received an email from someone here who said i hate America...to be clear NOTHING could be further from the truth.  i don't hate this country at all...i love it enough NOT to be blind to it's faults, or lie about it's history.  i love this country, but i don't feel that it has to mean excluding the love of all mankind, in order to prove it.

The love of one's country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?
~Pablo Casals

I will fight for my country, but I will not lie for her.

Here's a little something I read a while ago I thought I'd share with you... it's in The Obfuscation Report .

quote:

And the more I thought about it the more I realized the Republicans think death is funny. It’s funny when people die. There’s the joke.

Once I realized this simple truth it became much easier to understand Republican Humor. For example when Ann Coulter said of Arab Nations, “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity”, I finally understood the joke. You see, killing people is funny. It’s funny when people die.

Coulter also said “We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' crème brulée." She followed the statement by saying, "That's just a joke, for you in the media." See, it’s just a joke. Funny. I get it now. It’s funny when people die.

And after I figured that out it was so much funnier to listen to new CNN host Glenn Beck when he said, “I’m thinking about killing Michael Moore.” You see that is comedy folks. It’s not that the guy telling the jokes isn’t funny, it’s that you just don’t “get it.” You see, in a Republican World, It’s funny when people die.

(...)

Arrmed with my new found understanding of Right Wing Humor, I can now laugh it off when Ann Coulter says, “When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty,” Coulter said in an address to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). “We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too. Otherwise they will turn out to be outright traitors.” You see, it’s funny when people die.

Off topic slightly

My father and I were discussing politics the other day, I said to him (rather childishly I admit) that as the US has such an impact on the rest of the world and (due to puppy like pms) Britain especially, we should get some sort of say in who rules the world. It was meant as a joke but you know what reading some of these posts I wish we could. Reminds me so much of the site after Bush got a second term with loads of Americans holding plaques saying "sorry we tried" to the rest of the world.

kittinSol -> RE: "I`m voting republican" New political ad. (6/19/2008 5:26:49 AM)

You know, I can't count the number of Americans abroad who are apologetic about their country and president - it was painful for them in 2004. Personally, I think it's silly: why apologise for everybody else? I wasn't sorry or ashamed when the French elected Sarkozy.

But I see what you're alluding to. I've had that fantasy myself a few times. Oh, what a wonderful world it would be :-) .

I've listened to Rush at work because, quite frankly, his absurd attitude makes me laugh.  Never once in that time did I hear him call for violence.  Ann Coulter is a twisted bitch who doesn't seem well liked by anyone but the far right lunatic fringe.  I won't read her books nor listen to her.  I would let her give me a blowjob but thats because she can't talk while doing so.  Hannity, again itwas an at work thing but I've never heard him call for violence ... I can't say  that I've listened to him a great deal so he actually might.  Even so, these three are extremist radio personalities who play to an audience that wants to hear them say these things.  Over half of their audince is left wing democrats wanting something to bitch about.  So, for ratings sake, they get it.
"Decades of people calling for your murder?"  Please.  I guess all republicans areout righting demanding the murder, deportation, and/or sterilization of democrats.... When was the last protest like that you saw?  I'm guessing it happened on the 3rd of Never and took place on the corner of Imagination and Paranoia.
Both sides are equally guilty of acting like kids.  Both sides spew hatred and vitriol.  If I went out in public and mentioned during the last election that I didn't like Kerry, I could expect an almost violent argument from someone who was not even in the conversation.  If I said that I didn't care for Bush, the same people would interrupt my conversation with their "He eats babies" bullshit.  You may be adult enough to not act that way but all democrats are not.  They are in no way superior due to their chosen political party.  At my last job, I was asked "Are you a damned republican?" by a coworker.  I'll accept that your circle of friends is adult enough to not act that way, but the truth lies far from what you said.

Irishknight -> RE: "I`m voting republican" New political ad. (6/19/2008 6:47:12 AM)

Kitten, while I read the opinion piece you posted, thats all it is... an opinion.  To blame only one side for this kind of thing is to wear blinders.  It seems to be alright for one political party to call for the assassination of a president but the other can't make stupid jokes.  Bumper stickers advocating the labotomization of all republicans, killing republicans and other stupid nonsense abound.  Its not a matter of this side or that side.  Its a matter of stupid pricks on both sides acting like stupid pricks.

And it wasn't posted with any intention other than to illustrate Ken's point with an opinion piece. Alhough it is also my opinion and observation that there seems to be a culture in a certain section of the American right that advocates violence and wishes death upon its opponents as a joke.

This doesn't mean that certain individuals on the other side of the political spectrum don't do it as well: but it doesn't seem to be such an ingrained, accepted, pat-on-the-back cultural quirk on the left.

Again: my opinion, my observation.

DomKen -> RE: "I`m voting republican" New political ad. (6/19/2008 7:47:26 AM)

Two quick and easy examples.

Hannity and Hal Turner.

Limbaugh inciting riots at the Democratic Convention in Denver.

As to decades of people calling for my murder. In 1991 I was a volunteer clinic escort and Randall Terry, founder of Operation rescue and at the time a major player in the Christian Right, publicly called for the killing of anyone who worked or volunteered at a clinic (Paul Hill actually did shoot an escort in 1994). Coulter has been spouting her venom for a decade. I'll remind you as well of G. Gordon Liddy's radio show. Robertson and Falwell as well.
