Well, I'm not shy now, though I was a little bit in my younger days.  Therefore, the aforementioned "not-shyness" landed me a non-paying MC gig for 5 July 4th's in a row.  It was very cool, because I was the only one with a microphone and 40,000 people were made to suffer in the heat and listen to me introduce bands and stuff.

The best summer was when The Coasters, The Platters, and The Drifters were there and I got picked to help them sing "Lucy Brown."  They had me dance with them on stage, too.  (very cool)

Erm.... things I is proud of....

I had a poem published in a national paper at primary school
I was in a choir which was asked to sing at catherdrals and won lots of competitions at secondary school
I used to run a gay, lesbian and bi group on a now defunct social networking site, while I was at school, which had like 10,000 members or something. Ok not a real acheivement but it gave me warm fuzzies
I have 10 GCSE's even though I was told not to bother trying by my form teacher cos I wouldnt pass

I think thats it.

my shock and awe may be that i don't actually have any.

i actually sat here and thought about it.

the closest that i can think of is i have a congressional medal in academics, and hold the top award for a national volunteer organization.

Think a snort enema might dislodge the rest?  *one fell swoop kind of thing?*

Well, I think these things are very cool, and I started the thread, so my opinion is all that matters.

Oh, that made me think of something else.  In 1991 (I think, the plaque is somewhere in a box), I was named one of America's Volunteers of the Year by the Mennen Company (most famous for making Speed Stick deodorant - I know there MUST be a joke in that somewhere).  They chose one person from each state to receive the recognition.

The organization I was volunteering for at the time (The Literacy Council of Southwest Louisiana) got a check for $1,000 and I got... a plaque.

Not sure if this is truly a secret, but i make and sell jewelry.

i used to volunteer for the RIDE project years ago, basically what that did was to take special needs children and put them on horses, let them brush and interact with them, etc.  When i first signed up i wasn't sure i would like it, but ended up feeling a great deal of satisfaction from the excitment and joy it brought those kids.

Ohhhh, and last thing i can think of, in High School i won an award in Home Economics from Bank of America, received some $ and a fancy schmancy certificate.

Now now sweetness,  any person who takes time to break that barrier between the lgbt community and the straight community is damn good achievement in my books! That is much more real then some jackass who pays lip service and says they don't have a problem because they happen to know someone who's queer (a friend of a friend of their neighbor's type deal).

My dad worked for NASA in the 50s and he put my name on a capsule.  It was in orbit for more than 15 years.

Not shocking but unusual to have a piece of space junk floating around for that long with your name on it.

You guys keep making me remember things that I've had long buried in the deep recesses of my brain.

My name is on a record album cover... now you young kids wouldn't know what that was.  Normally they were made out of this black stuff called VINYL.  But in this case, it was orange vinyl. It was wayyyyy back in the summer of '82 (or was it '83??)... and that was 1982, not 1882 (cuz I knew some smartass would say it).

My first attempt at writing a book was in 1982 [small world, Cali].  I think my um is headed on the same path; he can print his name without assistance, and he's 3.

[I'm more proud of his accomplishment than mine, actually.]
