-fast reply-

okay. seriously. thomas jefferson said his most important achievement in life was passing a law for SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. more important even than being president, more important than any of his other "major" achievements. washington barely attended church and never took communion later in life. most of the founding fathers were more interested in deism and "enlightenment" ideas than any notion of a christian god. the word "under god" wasn't even added into the pledge of allegiance until 1954. when will people get over the whole "america was founded as a christian nation" thing?

on top of that, being that christians are the majority in government and conservative christians are possibly the most powerful voting bloc, i can't understand all the fuss about wanting a "real" christian elected president. there are still people who actually believe barack obama is a muslim - it's like they forgot that not a year ago there was all the hoopla over mitt romney being mormon which is technically a christian denomination. we've had what...one non-protestant president in our country's history? a non-christian couldn't even dream of possibly thinking about running for a major party. trust me, protestant and evangelical christians have it GOOD when it comes to government. when your country is run by people with a completely different religious worldview than you...or at least who come from a slightly different religious sect WITHIN christianity than you...then you have the right to complain.

respectfully,
a'ishah.

I seem to recall controversy over the Kennedys being Catholic rather than Protestant.

I am amazed to learn that Nixon was a Quaker ( DomKen)
Wasn't he one of you more slippery devious unprincipled presidents ?

Not surprised to learn the Quakers finally stood up and booted him out. lol
