How are bdsm candles diffrent than regular white emergency candles?

It was recomended to try bdsm candles from a sex store, if I found the white non scented non colored emergency candle wax to stingy.

So how are these bdsm candles diffrent than regular candles? Some of them are colored, an I've always been told colored candles are a no no.

Maybe I've been lucky, but through careful trial, I've found wal mart brand candles, especially the red kinds, burn at a perfect temperature for wax play. The white ones we bought burn too hot. So I dunno about the color equaling more heat. If it feels too painful on my leg (tough skin), I usually get rid of it. so far I've found the mandarin cranberry walmart candles to be perfect, plus they make my skin smell nice. I wouldn't recommend the trial and error method but finding well-burning candles elsewhere kind of eliminates the need for costly candles that probably aren't all that different.

Some of the candles are not that expensive at all, like 3 or 4 bucks a candle, and I guess if you don't like them for waxplay you sure could use them as regular for pleasure candles.

But you're right I'd rather find the ones that are nice and work for us, or decide waxplay from candles is a soft limit then keep on trying to find ones.

yeah I'm a candle fiend, wax play or not, so it doesn't bother me to just pick up a new one... if it's a really good scent but not good for wax play, I keep it as an accent somewhere. The worst burn I've gotten from trying a candle out was smaller than a quarter, and was probably a mild second degree. I've had much worse from the ovens at food service jobs (on my inner arm's delicate skin, too) with no lasting damage.

Well, to be truthful, there often isn't any difference. The ones in the sex stores are just wax formulations known to be of a low melting point.

If you want to test a candle, it's easy enough to do: go to your kitchen, put some water in the sink, and try your candidate candles on the back of your own hand, and be ready to plunge your hand into the water, if it should be too stingy for you. Once you find a candle you like, stick with it.

BTW: the "colored candles are a no-no" is actually a myth. Adding color to candles does little to nothing to their melting points, or in how fast/slow they cool. Again, it depends on the formulation. A frined of mine does some wonderful black light scenes using flourecent colored candles. Again, a little empirical testing will help you find the right ones to use.

Just stay away from the really hard candles. Those are the ones that have high melting points. And beeswax!

Oh man! I did forget to stay away from beeswax. luckily, my bdsm budget is pretty thrifty and we can't afford that fancy stuff, but I'll take note of that. The candles we use right now can be cut with a knife without any heat.

Has anyone heard anything about soy candles? I love their scents, they burn cleaner, but I have yet to get one for myself.

Anything paraffin should work for you. It is the lowest melting point out there.
Depending on the color, yes it can add a couple of degrees to the candle.
If you're having a problem with the emergency candles...which happen to be paraffin you're
probably going to have an issue with all candles you find.
Try out Hanukkah candles...paraffin...colored..dirt cheap..even cheaper than the emergency
candles.

Without looking it up I believe paraffin burns at 108 or maybe 118...everything else is much higher.
Google it.
