ORIGINAL: LadyJag08 I'm taking 20 mg Benicar. (very low dosage) That is the normal dose, not a low dose. The doctor should be able to tell you whether it will be harmful to him. In no case should you be assuming anything less than 10mg will be getting into his system if he does it all every time. That is based on renally excreted fraction alone. Divide down accordingly, if you're feeling lucky. Either way, you need to ask the doctor to evaluate the impact the relevant dose will have on him. And if you want a good idea of the risk, you will have to tell him everything¹. The above rule of thumb is guesswork only, a fallback if you're going to play it by ear anyway. Experience and statistics say docs' ears are better to play by. [;)] Health, al-Aswad. ¹ The doctor will know (or be able to find out) things like whether the bioavailability will affect the excreted fraction, and whether the unchanged drug will be excreted, or only the metabolites. It may be the case that the figure I gave was overly conservative, but that isn't a guess you should be making without the doctor suggesting it.
