Hello Iain,

Wasn't it nice of Florida (and America in general) to throw you such a BIG welcome to America party?  I mean, complete with fireworks and all?  Especially on such short notice.  Just goes to how how excited everyone is to have you visit.

fireworks, Greedy and some of Gwyn's BBQ...thinking it doesn't get any better than that for a welcome!
wishing you a unforgettable stay in the states.

Yep Iain, tell us how it is going.  Are you planning to travel around or base yourself mostly in one place for the three months?

Not really........I've had some Miller Chill and some Blue Moon.

Andrea and I went to the beach on saturday evening.......it was lovely.......

Apart from that I've only done shopping........Bought myself a new laptop, digital camera and a phone........I've managed to spend over half the cash I brought with me already........lol

My bank in France is sending me a new Master card.......so I will be able to spend even more money....lol

My problem at the moment as far as getting out and about is concerned is a lack of some wheels of my own........And Andrea seems to work all the hours god sends......

Anybody know where I can get a cheap car??

Anybody else willing to show me the sites??

Well at the moment I'm getting on really well with Andrea........so for now I will be sticking around Tampa........

Once I get some wheels of my own things will be different, I will be able to explore on my own......

I want to fly to the west coast in August......internal flights are cheaper then.......

If anybody could loan me the use of their couch for a night or two when I go exploring, that would be fantastic!!

The couple of times I have been to the States and Canada I have found the people to be the most welcoming of anywhere.  People I have literally met on bus rides have invited me to stay with them.  I already have a growing list of people I want to meet when I eventually get over there....Andrea is one of them!

If you come to Michigan my couch is open and available to you.

It sounds like you're having a great time! Have you looked into rental cars or perhaps renting a scooter?
That is the one thing I hate about travelling and being dependent on people, lack of ones own transportation and waiting on someone elses schedule. I always get antsy lol. At least with 3 months to meander around you aren't on a tight timeline!

I'm so happy for you, being able to do this holiday. Yay!

Thanks camille.........yes I have looked into rental cars, however I am of the opinion that it would be cheaper to actually buy a car and then sell it before I go back to UK.

I may even decide to buy a cheap Harley.......

Greetings!

This goes to any CM member, I am in rural central PA, if in this neck of the woods- by all means Ild give you a tour.

Now to OP.
Bus rides are a trip.  You just experienced America.   They are lengthy and tiring.
They also tend to attract some shady people.

Just so you know, our commander and chief George Bush is "protecting" you even now as we speak.  [shut up Roger]lol.

Customs gives EVERYONE a problem.  It isnt just you.   I had no trouble with Canada or Mexico customs...but did with US both times.  You have to go along with it.... [sorry]

Cheap car.  hmm.  Check a rent a wreck place. I moved once by renting a beater. [old  car]  also if you pick a gas guzzler ask for a cheaper rate.

Greedytop- im sure well do you well.

My advice- poke BEYOND the glittery tourist traps... veer off the interstate.  The 2 of you should each buy a bike [$80 at walmart] and bike around....

Be very mindfull. 2 blocks in the US  can shift into a bad neighborhood.

Ill pencil you in to come up and paint...will september 5th work for you?

OP,
If you make it to DC to visit our Nation's Capital, I'd be happy to show you around.

Actually, I'm visiting Angelika in Boston on 8/4. Care to visit Salem, Mass where the witches were burned? I'm going to see if I can find some of my witchy relatives and maybe explain this snarky persona.

Well......I think I may have mentioned this before, I will be travelling through DC by train on my return to Philly to catch my return flight.........so I could travel a couple of days earlier and come visit.
