Did anyone see this past Sunday's episode of Diary of a Call Girl on Showtime? If you saw it I'm curious what everyone thought. If you missed it, it basically had the main character, a London prostitute, learning how to be a Domme to her client. She was trained by a pro-Domme that had a slave. The one thing I got out of it was that for those that don't know a lot about this, they probably think that this is just a kink that'll last an hour until the session is done and then everyone goes back to the real world. I'm curious if anyone saw it and what you think.

I saw it.  I was so glad to see something like this not on Law and Order with a dead body I didn't think much more about it.  I did think it was interesting how everything the Pro said seemed to be the absolute and only way to do things.

I was thinking something along the lines of the same things. Law and Order makes the lifestyle seem just plain seedy.

I saw it.  I thought it was very stereotypical of what people think of the lifestyle.   As a kink.  It was all about the scene from buying all the "toys" to fixing up her flat.   The one thing I got out of it was that as much as she was in control of her "call girl" life, that control left her "real" life rather empty.

This is where I hate to see shows depicting the "lifestyle" because it's not about the lifestyle.  It's about how society views it as a "scene" or a "kink"

Living your life, including all aspects, work, home, family, D/s, M/s, etc., as your life, should (I would hope), keep you happy, satisfied, fulfilled, loved, safe, etc.

I enjoyed it for what it was... The main character fulfilling a fantasy for a client. I didn't expect it to be anything but that. And personally, I thought it was cool that they didn't portray it as something sick and wrong but rather as something playful and maybe even a little tender. It was very sweet when the Pro Dom was talking to her about her relationship with her husband.

To me, the reality is that while I'm Daddy's ad what he says goes, and we have some super HAWT playtime, much of our relationship looks very vanilla to the outside world and wouldn't be all that interesting to watch. I understand what people are saying about how the media portrays the "lifestyle" but relationships are still relationships whether you're kinky or vanilla. I'd rather my lifestyle be shown as the way it was on Diary of a Callgirl than being shown as sick and wrong the way it has been on other shows.

I saw a part of it tought it was hilarious. I really like the series. can't wait till monday

I also liked that it dealt with losing control, too, when she started beating her client. It's not something anyone can do and takes a lot of emotional development sometimes. Much better than in CSI where everyone ends up dead.

The TV show is very different from the autobiographical books ... (i think there are 2)

Belle in those is actually into BDSM play in her own sex life, not in her professional one, and she socialises a lot in the scene

There are fabulous books ... well worth reading.

Billie Piper's just not the same without Daleks.it's as simple as that.

I saw the episode a month or so ago and loved it, and I have to agree with daddys.  It wasn't meant to be a portrayal of the lifestyle.  In that episode, it was meant to be all about the kink and nothing more.  She's a call girl and was giving one of her clients his fantasy, nothing more.  She wasn't taking him on as her slave full time, it was just a once in a while thing.  I honestly thought it showed people a small taste of the lifestyle in a positive way, that it fullfills a need that some have and it's not something wrong or dirty.  While it did seem to only show the stereotypical view of the lifestyle, I think it was a positive view, just the same (ie. no one dead like was mentioned).

Can anyone tell me the title of the episode? It is on main tv but also available as a repeat on iPlayer and I would like to have a look. She's better off with daleks than Chris Evans anywho.

I know it's episode # 4, not sure if that helps you or not.

Thank you very much, will chase it down.

Dude, what is with you people knocking CSI and Law and Order? They're CRIME shows. Someone ALWAYS ends up dead on those shows. People don't watch them for deep, emotional stories; they watch them for the crime mystery. The who dunit and how. Of course if BDSM is on those shows someone will end up dead, just like if they do a show on drugs, booze, driving, whatever. It's a crime show about a dead person and finding out who did it. They're not educational shows or character driven shows.

As for the show in question, don't watch it. Not my thing. Not going to tune in just to see an episode about BDSM either. But that's just me.

Some of my friends and I talk CSI stylie sometimes for our own amusement. It can go something like this
Fancy coming for a beer?
Beer?
Yes beer, fermented hops and barley , consumed in hostelries.
Ah yes, sometimes it is taken to excess and motor skills are impaired, resulting in injury and even sex.
Some studies show that it can be very dangerous to attempt to drive after consuming 'beer'
It would be prudent if we ordered a cab for closing time.
A cab?
Yes cab, a taxi rented out per mile or per person, for a fee, so that the fee paying customer can get home without using cars or public transport.
Public transport?
Yes transport for the general public...

DavanKael -> RE: Diary of a Call Girl (10/1/2008 11:32:45 AM)

As a lot of folks have said, I think in the context of the show, it was about hiring someone to fulfill a fantasy; didn't really seek to flesh out relational D/s, more the professional angle(potentially)of such things (Admittedly, I don't know a whole lot about it empirically).
I thinnk it's an amusing show.  The starring actress is hot in a real girl, notpplastic actress sort of way.  :>
  Davan
P.S.--Agreed on the Law and Order and CSI snipes: they're great shows but they're crime dramas, so you're bound to see the seedier side of things.
