I heard a radio commercial earlier today that clearly portrayed a woman as getting the better deal and thus, the upper hand over a man. I have noticed other commercials that do this as well. I usually just ignore these type of commercials or they dont get much brain processing from me, but about 3 weeks ago I was watching an old episode of Star Trek the next generation and noticed a femdom vibe from it.

It was the episode "Angel One".  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRdzf_zt8OA

Essentially this is an episode about a planet that took a different evolutionary path from Earth's. Women are dominant and men are submissive. The episode revolves around a group of men from Earth who crash land on the planet. Initially they enjoy the planet and certainly the women who are living on it. But their own dominant tendencies get them branded as "outlaws" and they go to live in caves. You can see the whole episode by clicking on the link above.

Anyway, I am a HUGE fan of sci fi and I noticed a trend that started in the late 1980's  of  female dominance. You can certainly see it in other early episodes of TNG as well as other Sci fi. This has continued in star trek all the way to the present. For instance, in one of the star trek enterprise episodes it's revealed that the Orion slave girls are actually the masters and their men, the slaves. This is in pretty stark contrast to the 1960's Orion slave girls who were actually sexual slaves.

Wikipedia describes these as "waves of feminism".

I am just shocked at such a HUGE difference in shows from the 1960's and ones from the 1990's.

Anyone think there is a conspiracy here? lol.

Yay, where do I join.

Actually, pick any mindset, male dominant, female dominant and even equality and you can find some thread of it all through historical references.  It may be more obvious in general or more obvious from a personal standpoint at different times depending on your perception in that moment.  I can believe that some ripple might send more of femdom at different points.

An example, songs, I noticed that, as if the radio stations have a link to my feelings that when I'm down, most of the songs seem to be about sad things.  When  a relationship ended, the songs were break up songs.  When my partner died, all these songs about someone important dying or leaving seemed to be playing.  Perception, mine, was my answer.  I heard what I was tuned in to hear.

No, i personally think that the primary motivation behind such writing (yes, i should be shot be lumping screenplays in with literature) is the appeal of the different.  i don't see political, social or feminist agendas here; just that more people would rather watch the novelty of the "what if " scenario of women overtly controlling men than the slice of life of the world that we recognize and are used to.  This is more about ratings and attracting advertising dollars than anything.

No, there's no conspiracy.  In the case of Star Trek, there's, or was, Gene Roddenberry.  I don't know whether that episode of TNG was made before or after his death, but there was a somewhat similar episode in the original series.

Roddenberry broke more than a few conventions in his career.  You might recall that TV's very first interacial kiss was between Capt. Kirk and Lt. Uhura.  In the first pilot for the original series, the First Officer was a woman, played by Majel Barrett, she of many roles.  Also, in all the Star Trek series it's notable that superior officers who are women are addressed as Sir.

No conspiracy, though.
