I admire you, I started smoking at the tender age of 12 and been doing so off and on (mostly on) for the past 10 years. I have tried to quit, but it only lasted about an hour into my next shift as the manager at the local chain drug store........

kisshou -> RE: I Quit (11/15/2005 9:09:40 PM)

shortness of breath is the leading symptom of heart disease and heart disease is the #1 killer of women. I think you need a physical with a stress test done to check for damage to your heart. I am very serious and strongly urge you to have this non invasive test done.

I respect and admire your resolve, I hope it goes well.
The reason I stay away from things that might make me feel good and become addicting beyond the point where I can stop them is because when my head feels like a Mac Truck is running over it, I take whatever I have to in order to feel better again; I don't do pain graciously at all! M

I hope you will stay strong, and away from the cigarettes since there's much better trouble we can get into... In fact I think you owe me a voyeurism tour in NY. M

Day three is over as soon as I go to bed. Yay! It's been really rough. I was using nicotine transdermal patches to help stave off the nasty feelings, but they made me have a near fainting fit yesterday, followed by really heavy nausea, so I took the patch off in the early afternoon. I didn't put another one back on, and haven't had a single cigarette since I quit on Monday. Fortunately, I'm pretty sick anyway (BAAAAD cold), so I'm not thinking about it quite as much. Things have been going great! Once again, thank you all! I really appreciate the kind words and mental ass kicking (because I especially need the latter right now).

Oh, and by the way, kisshou, thanks for the great advice. Heart disease runs strong in my family, so I'll take that advice to heart. I think most of the shortness of breath is smoking related, but a physical is definitely in order.

[sm=kiss.gif] MWWWAAAAH! Love y'all,
Michelle

I quit smoking today.

NOMC, congrats. I quit on the 6th. I however, am not really having any problems with it. Probably the fact that I am spending all my time in the nursing home with my dying mother has kept my mind off of any cigarette cravings I might have had. And the look on her face when I tell her I've quit is worth any discomfort I might experience in the future. I will not start smoking again, when this is over. I promised her I would never smoke again, and it is a promise I intend to keep, for her.

Congrats, cello, I gotta say, this is one area I am definitely weak, I have smoked since 15, and therefore, have amoked a long time. It's wonderful that its a promise you have made up your mind to keep. I am so sorry about your mother. You and yours wil be in my thoughts and prayers.

I quit smoking today. It feels like someone is running over my head with a Mac Truck while cackling maniacally, then hitting reverse to do it all again. And I'm loving every minute of it. I've been smoking for about five and a half years, nearly a pack a day. It got to the point where I couldn't walk up ten stairs without huffing and puffing, and if I didn't have a cigarette at least every hour, I'd be wheezing and coughing. Not pretty.

I was lying in bed the other day, thinking about walking outside to smoke (I always smoke outside), and it hit me "IT'S 30 F***ING DEGREES OUTSIDE! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!" That led to me thinking about wanting to live to see my kids and my grandkids, which led to me realizing how out of shape I am (I still look good, but I'm not healthy). It was a sudden epiphany that I need to get my life back in order, starting with kicking the smoking habit. I need to eat better, exercise, sleep at a normal time (I never go to bed until 6 AM), maybe meditate more. Of course, I couldn't do it all at once... I'd probably end up killing something cuddly and furry. So for now I'm just going to kick the butts. I feel awful... I mean REALLY awful, and I couldn't be happier or prouder of myself. Well, thanks for listening. If you need me I'll be in my joyous nauseous bubble.

I'm so very proud of you, my angel. I know it's hard and you feel horrible, but keep it up and Master will have a special treat for you before you leave Sunday...

Love You.

Wow, who needs a patch when you have that! lol

You're a lucky lady, NOMC.

Okay, I've lost track of which day it is, but continued HUZZAH's on your success!

And---if you can have an icky cold and not be thinking of smokes, that is a brilliant sign! How many folks have you met in the throes of pneumonia that still had to have their nic fit? (well, I've known plenty!)

:)Francine

Guilty1974 -> RE: I Quit (11/18/2005 11:52:57 AM)

Hi there, very good of you to quit smoking, even better that you also kicked the patches (they only keep up the addiction in the long run - if you can do without, so much the better). Be carefull though. Don't grow overconfident. In a few weeks (often about three), when not smoking becomes more normal for you, you may experience an increased craving for cigarettes again. In a few months, that may happen again. Be sure to resist that craving. That "one" cigarette is almost the first of new addiction, so no matter how hard your mind says that it doesn't hurt: resist the temptation. The feeling of craving might return a few times, but becomes less intense with time.

Go for it!

Roel
Three years, four months, one week and two days I haven't smoked by now. That's at least 36851 cigarettes less. What I did with the € 5.380,49 I saved this way is really not your business, you nosy little rat. Also, some would argue I will now live 18 weeks, 1 day, 22 hours, 55 minutes longer, however, I think that depends on *your* driving skills just as well.
