Fully Cully (FLCL)

funny i thought it was called furi kuri.... fooly cooly.

never heard the fully cully...

I remember reading somewhere that the series is pronounced fooly cooly because the Japanese can't properly pronounce "freaky" with their accent. When they try it comes out fooly cooly, or furi kuri as you said.

That said my favorites are:

Neon Genesis Evangelion (ORIGINAL series & movies)
Ghost in the Shell (movies, manga, SAC, & 2nd Gig)
Hellsing (original but Ultimate is waaaay better)
Robotech (Rick Hunter series moreso)
Macross Plus
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star
Samurai X
Samruai Champloo
and waaaay too many others to list......

I used to be big into anime back in high school and into college, but about sophmore year I just didn't have the cash to support my habit. I've recently started looking back into it thanks to youtube and veoh making fansubs so easy to find.

Favorites:
Hellsing (the new ovas more than the original)
Utena
Neon Genesis Eva
Slayers (guilty pleasure)
Bleach (extremely guilty pleasure)
Ebichu the Housekeeping Hamster
Trigun
Irresponsible Captain Tyler

I've just started looking into Deathnote. I haven't seen too much of the anime yet, but I have read the first manga and saw the Japanese live action films which were pretty interesting.

bipolarber -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 1:15:49 PM)

Pretty much anything by Studio Ghibli,

Ghost in the shell is a series that I'm always impressed by (I guess so is Speilberg, since he's making a live action version of it.)

Steamboy was was a great time, both in the theatre, and on DVD...

And when it comes to Tentacle sex, the two that stick in my mind are "Angel of Darkness II" (about the mutant plant that feeds on the sex fluids of a girl's school student body. LOL) and of course, "The Wandering Kid" a.k.a Urotokobeoji (sp?) which pretty much was the Star Wars of the tentacle sex genre.

LaTigresse -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 1:34:28 PM)

Oh dear, somehow I don't think we are talking about Bugs and Tweety here......

chenDawg -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 1:50:03 PM)

my all time favorite is Elfen Lied
Anyone who hasnt seen it, and likes violence/drama, has to check it out.

other top 2 are Loveless and Gravitation

NewJustlookin -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 2:03:01 PM)

List of Favorites,
*FLCL-Cool animation but I still don't get that show.. Nor do I think  I will ever stand it.
*Outlaw Star.
*Bleach, Like most people have said good but after I think like 150 it got boring to me and was too long. But I still like it.
There so many to list.. My collection is too big.
As for Tentacle come on la Blue Girl. [:D]

MadameMarque -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 2:23:55 PM)

Yami no Matsuei aka Descendants of Darkness (there's a treasure trove of kinky shounen ai)
Lain: serial experiments
Blood: the last vampire (Blood+ is loosely based upon this one-shot feature)

I haven't had access to a lot of reportedly great anime, but am considering renting online.  (There's a topic I might revive - good anime resources!)  I know there's a wealth of anime I haven't had the opportunity to watch, yet.

My favourites themes are vampire, occult, afterlife/death and reincarnation, and/or boy/boy romance and sex, variously called BL (boy's love), shounen ai, yaoi - of course, especially if it's of BD-D/s-SM sort.  If you specify any recommendations of yours as having these themes, I will be most appreciative.

(Generally speaking, not so interested in the cutsie stuff or in sci-fi themes.)

I'm very interested in Blood+.  I've read just the opening to the manga, plus watching the anime upon which it's based.  Fabulous all-star soundtrack, by the way, including one of my top favourite songs, Season's Call, by hyde.

I love the live action Death Note feature films, I and II.  So, I want to watch the anime series, which I've heard is based more closely upon the manga, plot-wise.

I was rather enjoying the few episodes I watched of Vampire Princess Miyu, but haven't had a chance to see the rest.

I have a copy of Angel Sanctuary, and haven't gotten to watching it.  I keep hearing that the manga's much more involved and complete (more so than usual, for anime versus manga).

P.S. - the soundtracks to many of these contain some of my favourite music!

Yes I agree with Faery about Hellsling, Well worth/buying into it.
But I do have a quesiton about [image]http://us.st1.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/Img/trans_1x1.gif[/image]Hellsing Ultimate. So is it a remake of the orginal eposides or is it entirely new story line? I haven't bothered to buy it since to me sounds like the same story line. But I could be really wrong about it.

I tend to like stuff that's longer, because when something is good I don't want it to end. =)

dreamofthemoon: In order to understand Death Note, you really have to watch it from the beginning.... like most anime (But also, moreso than most anime), it's not something you can just watch a few episodes and really know what's going on.

Fnord.

Oh oh oh- I just found out that there's a new live action feature in the Death Note series, in addition to Death Note, and Death Note II: the Last Name!  It's called L: change the world, Ken'ichi Matsuyama reprising his charismatic portrayal of the enigmatic L.

Actually, I guess it's been out for a few months, because it just became available on DVD.

Oh, L!

"Missa Amane!  Missa Amane!  Please choose me, instead!"
- L, from Death Note, the live action feature film

Almost positive its a remake
they did it because the first series ventured too far from the manga or sumthin like that

Thanks for the recommendation.  When I try to click on your link, rather than going to a URL, it wants to get me to save something.  What would that be?

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 4:26:30 PM)

it doesnt do that to me at all...it just goes to the site.

type in anidb.net

put hellsing  in the search once anidb.net is loaded.

since they do not specify that it is a sequel....it is just a remake.  watch the origional with the 13 ep's.

Chendawg is right, Hellsing Ultimate sticks more to the manga than the OVA did. The OVA condensed the mangas and changed several key things. Ultimate also takes several of the fight scenes from the OVA and make them even more badass. Both are definitely must-watch series though!

On the note of remakes, has anyone heard of the remake that is supposed to be done of Evangelion? I was a bit disappointed to hear that this new director is in effect dumbing the series down and expanding on the fight scenes in order to make the series more accessable to those just getting into anime. Horrible idea in my opinion, since the ambiguity and little details are what made the OVA such an incredible series and still my favorite.

aggressiveblkdom -> RE: anime (8/1/2008 11:32:26 PM)

Oh yeah, a great site which I use to watch entire series and movies:

www.tv-links.cc
