I'm still marveling at 10 puppies lol.  She's not particularly happy about being shut up in the back room, but the cat is in there with her and she gets along well with the cat.  I'm also checking on her often.  I don't mind middle of the night (although Holly probably will, she has to work tomorrow lol), I just want them to come while I'm home.

I'm still in shock myself....I keep checking them(and counting them) constantly to make sure mom hasn't rolled onto any and that all are nursing, and that mom is cleaning everyone. Did the dewclaws last night, everyone is fine [:)]

ok, ladies and gents (and all others who don't fall into either catagory).  I am currently posting from the boy's laptop while sitting on the floor of the bathroom.  I do believe that my baby has gone into labor.  I was a bit worried at first - she wouldn't get out of my lap and still had no interest in the whelping box, even with my old shirt in it.  However, she is now sitting in the box, looking at me like "why aren't you still petting me" lol.  I haven's paniced yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.  the boy and I have neither one ever delivered puppies (although I have watched multiple human deliveries ... it's just not the same when it's your baby ...)  Holly is at work, and I have her number, but I refuse to call every 10 minutes lol.  we'll see how things go ...

and forgive typos please, not only am I excited and worried, but I'm using a stupid laptop keyboard.

I have delivered puppies before. Nothing to it. Just let Mama do it all, but if you feel she's taking too long cleaning off a pup/ go ahead & break the bag of water around the pups face so it can breathe :))  That's about all you can do if the pups are coming out on their own. After each birth, feel Mama's stomach to see if there are more. If there's more than 30 minutes bet. births, contact your vet. They may say wait an hour, but pups/kittens usually come 15-20 minutes apart.  Mom will chew the cord/clean off the pups, but sometimes they'll groom their ownselves first (girl's gotta look good no matter what, don't cha know) that's why I said to breat the bag around the pups face. If you want my phone # to help you thru, let me know. I know we disagreed on the breeding, but I'm all about helping the pups :)

We've had three puppies so far - puppy 1: female, black with white tips, not much interest in eating so far, and the one that (of course) caused the panic because she wasn't moving at first.  puppy 2: male, red and white with beautiful markings, the largest of the three, and the only one that shows much interest in eating.  puppy 3: male, possible tri-color, but definitely red and white, lightweight so far.  We're pretty sure that there is a fourth, but maybe not ... she may just be constipated.  She isn't really acting like she has any more up there, even with the continuing contractions as the 3 puppies feed ... Holly isn't worried though - she came home, there wasn't much going on at work, so it wasn't a problem.

Congratulations and relax..if all placenta was delivered with the pups and she doesn't seem to be pushng any more, she has delivered everyone. If she is still pushing a bit, gently massage her belly and sides..if you don't feel another puppy it may just be a relained placenta..the massage will help to move it down.

Puppy 4: female, huge, aren't sure if she's going to dry black or brown just yet ... and NOW she's acting like she still needs to deliver lol.  So we may have a 5th puppy (darnit, that means Holly was right lol).

I prefer them as lap warmers, and bed warmers when I'm sleeping alone.

Yayyyyyy for the new puppies! That is happy wonderful news and I bet she is very relieved to have it all done with, wow puppies.

She stopped at 4, she's all happy to not be carrying them around anymore lol.  We think there was a little bit of placenta left up there after puppy 4 and once it came out, she was finally done. 

I'll be taking pictures and posting them as soon as I can ... unfortunately, I have to work the weekend (tonight, sat and sun) so unless I can talk Holly and rob into coordinating picture-posting it will probably have to wait until Monday when I'm off.

Great news, waiting til Monday would probably be better anyways, it gives momma dog a chance to recoup and enjoy being momma dog.
