i also finished the Prayer Shawl for DJ and mailed it off today.  It is knit in a pattern of K3 P3 for odd number rows and P3 K3 for even numbered rows.  It is done in 100% 4 ply cotton on #11 needles and looks almost like lace.

Both of the items are lovely, fluffy.

I got my motifs book today, after looking for months on the book clubs that I am on.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hookers (9/27/2010 9:26:15 PM)

oh...I forgot...

I put one of my afghans in the county fair this year.  Even if it gets honorable mention, I would be happy.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/27/2010 9:34:52 PM)

Good luck at the Fair, Shahar.

i've starting the second hoodie.  This one is for a grand who is 1 1/2.  Same yarn as the first one - Lion Brand Recycled Cotton (and some acrylic), Seagrass is the color name.  i'm using size 5 needles.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/28/2010 8:49:46 AM)

Oh boy...

Mom saw an afghan with irises on it.  It is in afghan stitch.  Last time I did an afghan stitch, it was for a pillow...before I had Lizard.

This coming month, I will buy some afghan hooks via Herrschners.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/28/2010 8:53:35 AM)

Great stuff, Fluffy!!

I have an afghan hook... and a friend who knows how to CROCHET demonstrated it. So yeah, it sits there. [8|] Someday!

I am content that I sewed those granny squares together and it is big enough for the top of my twin bed! YAYYY!! Because ain't no way I would make one of my own. Nope.

Here is a pic of the first hoodie.  It still needs 2 buttons.  It is for a red headed 1yr old girl.

Thats gorgeous [:)]

I have to say I was lost in translation.....always when you talked about hoodies I thought you meant you are doing hats [8|]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hookers (9/28/2010 11:51:35 AM)

No, a hoodie is a 'sweat jacket' with a hood on it.  It is usually a fleece.

I realised that by now, thanks [8|] [:D]

damn lost in translation happened already in 2005 when I was out with my ex. I liked a heck of a lot a particular tea storage container (made from porcellaine) with a cat on it in a bit of a more expensive shop...and could not afford it (had to count my pennies wisely with 13.50 a week left for food)...so my ex whom I was dating at that time gave me a treat and wanted me to show it to him....that theme was already off their shelves by then and so he suggested to ask for it at the counter....I had named it "tea pot"....so needless to say, the friendly staff member came out with a tea pot....which of course was not what I meant [>:]

I then explained what I meant and my ex had a heck of a good laugh, apologising to him that I was lost in translation [8|]

He has his laugh about me sometimes in that respect, I refuse by now to say the word "dough balls" to him when we order that as starters as it was too mean how he laughed when I (tried to) pronounce it the first time [>:] Since then I just say "you know what to order..."

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/29/2010 9:57:08 AM)

i just ordered the yarn to make scarves and watch caps for the Seaman's Church Institute.  They provide Christmas gifts for folks who are on the merchant ships in New York and NewJersey ports.  http://seamenschurch.org/christmas-at-sea

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/29/2010 10:10:13 AM)

I havent started my charity knitting yet, thanks for that link, Fluffy!

PeanutTigerinBox -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/29/2010 11:34:03 AM)

I went to a charity shop today to donate an awful cat birthday calendar I got from my mom to my...29th or 30th birthday (no idea how she came to that crap idea) as it was still in its original foil wrapped and is nice for kid (for kids....not for adults!!! or at leats not for me as adult!!!) an discovered there also wool [:)]

Might go back there one day to check if it is still there and buy it.

If it isn't there anymore it won't matter either, so no harm done to leave it for now when I am broke already.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (9/29/2010 7:21:11 PM)

We were working in the storage room, fixing to get my mid centennial dresser for big M to take to his home.  I decided to check the drawers and sure enough...the ugliest shade of brown yarn...[:'(]

We put it into the charity box for someone else to keep it.

We also find a box full of books.  The ones I have been looking for.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/1/2010 2:36:18 AM)

I found a peace sign in filet mesh that I can do.  Trick is, I have to work one block very carefully.

Mom is hiding the camera from me...we had a good view of the harvest moon and Jupiter.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/1/2010 7:28:57 PM)

I am here to announce ....

http://www.coatsandclark.com/cgi-bin/MsmGo.exe?grab_id=75&page_id=15075072&query=trellis&hiword=trellis+

is a winner in the county Fair!!

I used orchid Red Heart super saver and extended it out for more body.

I will be floating when we get the throw back on Sunday...unless someone gets me a hot fudge milkshake.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/1/2010 7:33:59 PM)

Very good Shahar!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/4/2010 11:12:36 AM)

Mom wants me to work on this one...

http://www.amazon.com/Herrschners-Blue-Ribbon-Afghans-Crochet-Treasury/dp/0848714601#reader_0848714601

I can do it...just need more time and the yarn..

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/4/2010 11:49:33 AM)

Congratulations on your win, Shar!

I am pleased that I got TWO pairs of mitts out of the hank of alpaca! One according to the pattern, the second with my adjustments, which suit me much better. AND give me a pattern I can make and resell YAY!

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/4/2010 7:45:07 PM)

I will begin working on the blue star afghan by bits and pieces  One color at a time when I am buying yarn.

Mom knows that I have to work on the other pieces.
