PanthersMom -> RE: Needles and Hooks (8/11/2008 3:17:41 PM)

you all make me sick, lol, i couldn't knit to save my soul and crochet is just as frustrating!  i feel like i got left out when they were passing out the arts and crafts gene, dagnabbit!  i'm craft deficient!  i've had family members try to teach me, but it doesn't go well and they give up.  i'm hopeless!  mother in law can knit and crochet so i send her packages once a year of yarn for christmas; she loves it and i occasionally get cute stuff for the house.

www.elann.com

where evil dwells!!  it's the squares of all the colours that do me in.... [8|]

and I am about talked out of the big girl patterns, whew!!  WHERE would I wear that wrap cami?  someplace where I never ever lean forward....[sm=pole.gif]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/7/2008 9:30:12 AM)

Okies!!  I am back to knitting---w00000t!!

And, I am here to recommend the book "Dominknitrix" by Jennifer Stafford.  I got the book for a few patterns in it that amused me, but actually it is a really good book with lots of chances to practice techniques that you might not always use.  PHOTOS describing how to do stuff---like grafting garter stitch, my next thing. [8|]    My current project is the "Avast" sweater from Knitty.com, Fall 2006.  Yes, making it for someone utterly undeserving, but there you go.  Lots of plain stockinette, which I can knit without actually LOOKING at.  Also lots of picking up stitches along the edge, which I HATE.  [&:]  One of the reviews on Ravelry described it as "lots of tedious detail", or something like that, and it is, but these seamless constructions are interesting to me, and I would rather practice new ideas on someone else's vetted designs.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/7/2008 9:40:03 AM)

hey girls,
I thought i'd posted this already, but i guess not.
I was in a group that knitted caps for cancer patients.
Stores donated the materials and we did the work, and then the patients were warm.

Everybody wins.

huggles,
sunshine

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (10/7/2008 9:45:52 AM)

I love knitting hats, and I always give them away!  I have a bunch of hat patterns from when  a friend of mine got cancer but then did NOT have to have chemo.  Elann.com has gobs of free patterns!

THREAD NECRO THREAD NECRO!!!! [sm=runaway.gif]

I had to unearth this thread, not only in honour of Kyra, She Who Must Knit In Hiding, but because DAGnabbit it's that time of year!!

So I fell in love with FULL PRICE YARN. Naturally the coat required 20 skeins of said, which I purchased because I could wear the coat to work. Now I am at a point where the finished measurements on the needles match those of the diagram. And I have FOUR SKEINS LEFT. This pleases me NOT fine people!! [>:]

I am opting to make the coat somewhat longer, since hey! it will be more flattering. For those who wants to google, it's the Kirra coat from Berroco Origami. At least it looks good!!

MistressHolly71 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/17/2010 9:23:07 PM)

Time of year? Does that mean we're only suppose to knit during certain seasons? [sm=dunno.gif]

I love the coat.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/17/2010 9:30:01 PM)

LOL, no I just figured it sounded like a good way to end the sentence!! And I am laid off this summer, so YES we knit at this time!

Ending up with coats that we cannot wear for months. I also have alpaca for a short sleeved sweater. And sparkle merino for a cardi. Yepper! We plans it right! [8|]

MistressHolly71 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/17/2010 9:44:29 PM)

At least it gets cold enough up there to wear warm coats. I'd have to go visit my brother in Colorado more often. Hmmm, I wonder if my SIL still has her cashmere goats.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/17/2010 9:47:36 PM)

It gets plenty freeeezing here!! Actuallly this is a neato blend that feels like twine! It will be great at work over my sleeveless dresses. Gotta make the most out of that damn wardrobe!! It should work casually too... provided I don't wear it once and frog it! LOL!!

There is a great hoodie pattern in the same book and I have this obsession with hoodies. All it needs is pockets to be great!

~~cashmere~~?? do you spin? I do NOT. NO! NO! spinning!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 8:10:33 AM)

So okay I stayed up late to bind off the coat. And guess what? I hates it!!

Well, not hates... but it is just not flattering. FROG!! Into the hoodie that I wanted. See, this is getting value for the fiber dollar!. [8|]

tropicalhoney -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 9:50:50 AM)

The last two things I knitted for myself were not the least bit flattering, so I am back to knitting for the grands or knitting basics for myself. Fortunately, my sister loved them! Maybe I'll look into the caps, but I don't know if anyone wants them down here.

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 10:03:20 AM)

Here's a chemo cap i knitted for myself.  i did one in red and one in brown.

I love it! Where did you get the pattern?

fluffypet61 -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 10:09:12 AM)

Lion Brand and the yarn, too.  Here

ShaharThorne -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 11:20:46 AM)

I want, I want, I want...*seen begging for the pattern*

I think you had some hard tension, which makes the work smaller or tighter.  I tend to do that a lot.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Needles and Hooks (6/18/2010 12:47:06 PM)

Wasn't the tension at all, Shar, it's that D cups and draped HEAVY fabric are not a match. Oh, for the extra yarn? TOOOO much extra for that!
