The newspaper article seems to imply that (Secretary aside) pretty much all dominance in movies is Femdom. This seems to be a predominant mainstream media misconception, that "bondage = (usually paying) male client in a (usually professional) female dominatrix's dungeon".

The number of (good) male dom/femsub movies people have suggested here shows otherwise, but it's a message that never seems to make it in the outside world.

Do you think it's partly political correctness, that even if movies are being made about female submission, as per Blue Velvet, 9 1/2 Weeks, etc., the "done thing" is to ignore that because it plays into feminist or rape concerns, but meanwhile it's OK to play up the male sub stereotype?

Obviously femdom as a kink is totally legitimate and fine and lots of people here have it as their kink, and good luck to them; but it is striking how the mainstream associates pretty much all BDSM with femdom these days (maybe even more so in Britain)m and the news article is a good example. I find hard to regard it as a good and balanced article given those things.

I agree. Most is femdom because that's news and news has to be new to the average reader.

I think we primarily see femdom/malesub in mainstream media fora few reasons. A woman a a corset and latex is sexy, whether you're kinky or not, a "pathetic" malesub is an easy punchline, and to the casual observer a femsub relationship can easily appear to be abuse. With a malesub people see that he is larger than her, likely stronger, so any "abuse" he's taking is because he wants it.

The Secretary is my favorite. Love Spader and Gylenhall, they were great in the movie.  I love the part after she has been bathed and he is drying her off. I thought their relationship fit them and worked for them. I love the looks on Gylenhall's face when she was first spanked and when Spader came on her. The mental work he did on her was great.

Yep, I loved The Secretary too. I had no idea what it was about when I started to watch it.

While some of the mentioned films were hot, right now if you really want HOT, watch True Blood. Hot is an understatement.

I have to agree with most everyone here....

Secretary is an AWESOME BDSM movie... it shows the struggles that people have in admitting their desires in the area... however... someone said it portrays a psychological problem with them.... she is self abusive... he fights what he is and wants. But, it really is a very well done movie with 2 very good actors... (Maggie G. said she enjoyed learning more about submissiveness and the lifestyle.... while James S. said (in an interview once) that he was disgusted by by the concept.... since then I really don't hold much respect for his "open mindedness" which he obviously doesn't have.

9 1/2 weeks.... always listed as one of the GREATEST BDSM movies of all time... again... it really portrays it as a 1 sided thing... it shows the S/m on both sides but turns it the D/s into a one sided desire... but still definitely my first introduction into S/m. And one of my all time favorite movies.

I tried to watch The Pet... Master has it on DVD and had a bet with me to see if I could make it through it... (because I didn't have a lot of time then to watch... I didn't get through it lol) I found it definitely porn style acting... and definitely far fetched in some areas... like in the scene where she was sitting in a restaurant on the floor and he was feeding her... ok... sure.... but nobody in the restaurant turned a head? Really? LOL Someone said something about forced slavery above... and they hit it... it isn't what we do here... that loses the "consensual" piece right out of the window, doesn't it?

Exit to Eden was a comedy.... meant to make people laugh... and it definitely serves its purpose.

I have to say (stepping from movies ) that the BEST "dig in deep" story of BDSM was in CSI.... they used the right terms... the right rationale for why we do these things... but again.... it portrayed (in every episode they had about it) the pro-Dom/me only... and, yet again, that the submissive had emotional issues and the Dominant was always an "accidental" killer. But, still showed they did their research very well in writing them.
