FR, please excuse if any of these repeat:

Warm milk with a little bit of vanilla in it.
A warm bath or shower.
Having and orgasm.
Benadryl. (It's the same thing that is in all the "PM" meds)
Getting more exercise during the day.
Pancakes with maple syrup.
Lavander, neroli, or marjoram essential oils.
Progressive relaxation exercises.
A glass of red wine.
Sleepytime, Tension Tamer or Kava Kava tea.
Valerian root.

AmbienCR made me feel like Id been worked over with a bag of oranges.
And not in a good way.

Orgasm, definetly orgasm.

I have seen so many people turn into zombies every night because of prescription sleep meds that I am too scared to get anywhere near the stuff. Besides, hate meds. What works for me on a regular basis is a lavender pillow spray on my pillows. (If you live with your Dom, that is something to be discussed, however. When He moved in, there was a fuss over the spray on his pillow.) Other common fixes are chamomile tea with honey, or a lavender scented candle or bath bar.
Popular psychology says that an established routine (same bed time mos days, same habits before bed) helps. I have noticed that unless Sir "tucks me in", I can't sleep. Many a night, I have padded down the hall to the area where he is winding down simply to announce that I cannot sleep, and ask to be tucked in. Little habits help.

Hope you find yourself in better slumber soon!

The best herbal remedy i have come across is Avena Sativa, which is basically a wheat extract...mix 5-20 drops in with a glass of water, wait 5mins and drink. Only thing that has ever worked for me, even helps me sleep through a migraine.

I enjoy listening to music and rethinking about the days events with my sub/dom.

onlyfreelycaged -> RE: What helps You sleep? (1/25/2008 1:13:13 PM)

the only way that i can sleep, is to have a full day. It needs to be compleate with some physical activity (even if it's just running erronds, or cooking or cleaning.) and some mental activity, (like reading, planing that day, the next day, or a photo shot).

I just have to keep going until i am tired, both physicaly and mentaly.  Then i can, and do sleep well.  but if i am not tired physicaly, i will lay there, being uncomfortable. If i am not tired menatly, i will lay there thinking and soon, i won't have gotten any sleep and my alarm will have gone off.

delicateme -> RE: What helps You sleep? (2/12/2008 10:47:03 AM)

When I was a little girl I would lay in bed and think about when I was sick.  That was when my mom would pamper me and treat me the best.  When I got older I would lay in bed and day dream I was dieing.  When I learned about bdsm I laid in bed and dreamed of being whipped until I passed out (went to sleep).  I also belly danced every other day and yoga on the days I didn't.  I should really start walking again.  What you think about can add to the stress or relax you.

I have tons of trouble sleeping, and the same remedy doesn't work for me every night.  I have to switch it up.  The things I try:

-My owner reads me a story in a lulling voice, talking softly with gentle rythms.
-I play repetitive mind games that are boring: Take the word ending -nt, and using all vowels in sequence, see which vowel can be used to make the most words by changing the first letter, ie hint tint lint.  I usually fall asleep before I get to "o".
-Reading something boring, like a cd jacket or pamphlet in the mail, in dim lighting.
-Turning the temperature way down in the room
-Starting at my toes and trying to relax each muscle in my body moving upward.
-Trying to recite recipes in my head from memory.

OsideGirl -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/23/2008 7:48:23 AM)

I was suffering from insomnia. I took two Tylenol PM every night for two months straight. I would wake up in the morning still exhausted. Master brought home these new liquid vitamins that are whole foods based. It's really good stuff. It has 175 vitamins, minerals etc. After three days I noticed a huge difference. I was sleeping through the night and getting up before the alarm went off in the morning.

It's made a difference in energy, stamina, sleep, attitude, focus and weight loss.  I never would have thought that a vitamin would make a difference to my sleep but it has. I highly recommend them.

silkncarol -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/23/2008 3:08:54 PM)

I fall asleep listening to the sound of waves crashing onto the shore.  My last Master got me started using one of those sound machines and i still use it to this day...even for naps....a few waves and i'm out like a light!

I've also had good results with shutting down the thoughts...imagining the color black..total, everything....
LOL...if neither of those things work, i get up, go online and that puts me out..

BKSir -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/23/2008 3:13:06 PM)

I have my pet sing me to sleep once in a while, it's very comforting.  He has an angelic voice.  Otherwise, it needs to be dark.  I mean an unnatural dark, almost as if it's actually sucking the light from other places.  And cold.  And preferably music, something quiet, but steadily rhythmic.

chicagoswitch -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/25/2008 4:20:51 PM)

The last thing I need if I am trying to sleep is an orgasm.  One of those and I have enough energy to paint the house.
I take 10mg of Ambien and 3 Tylenol pm to get about 5 hours.  I have always had sleep issues.

poppies!

Trazodone and rum in the summer, trazodone and vodka in the winter. Works a treat. Amphetamine salts and caffeine to wake up in the morning.
But we're winning the war on drugs, because some chump in a white coat whose sole occupational skill is counting to 90 gives me a hard fucking time about it every month
Hey, it puts you to sleep in less than an hour, no matter how angry you are... gotta love that!

slaveforsure -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/27/2008 3:35:27 PM)

Depends on why you can’t sleep. If it’s a clinical problem then seeking the help of a medical professional to administer such prescribeable sleep aids would be recommended.

If it’s not a serious problem but an occasional one, beyond the typical other suggestions here I would recommend “Simply Sleep” it’s the same sleep aide as in Tylenol PM without the acetaminophen (you don’t need the pain reliever/fever reducer if you’re just trying to sleep) The less drugs you pump into your body you don’t need, the better off you are.

What works for me? The release of endorphins – seriously, do some cardio activity for 30 minutes a day and you’ll sleep like a baby. Or as someone else suggested – find a sadist. I know for me – there is no better sleep than one induced by the lasting after effect of endorphins.

MadamAyesha -> RE: What helps You sleep? (7/29/2008 11:38:03 PM)

I'd definitly have to agree with the numerous suggestions of orgasm - if not try counting backwards from 400 to zero by three.  Very boring...Works in no time! [sm=sleepy.gif]

Insomnia... I know your pain all too well.

I've been trying something new that's been working pretty effectively for me.

Hit up a grocer or specialty store for some tea. I prefer Tazo (brand),

two tea bags in 1.5 liters of water, steeped for 20-25 minutes, chilled in a freezer (with tea bags still in) for 10-15.

The tea I use is one zen (which is green tea, lemon verbena leaves, spearmint leaves, and lemongrass as the listed ingredients)
and one calm (which is caffiene free, and lists chamomile flowers, hibiscus flowers, spearmint leaves, lemongrass, rose petals, blackberry leaves, safflower, peppermint leaves, sarsaparilla root, lemon blam leaf, and licorice root as its listed ingredients.)

During the 30-40 minutes this is going on I;

Spend ten minutes stretching.
Take in a light snack (I prefer a single piece of whole wheat toast with light butter)
shower, and brush my teeth. (Not only is it relaxing, but it's also a very clean habit to get into.)
I then sit down, and write out a list of the things I need to do the following day. Anything that really needs done, grocery shopping, or finishing up a project. I write side-notes on what I'll need. (It has been a great way to clear my mind of worries)

Generally speaking, my tea is ready by the time I've finished that.

So I put on some soft music, and drink it. The full one and one-half liter, and then I lay down.

Results may vary, but it might be something worth trying. Good luck!
