Can somebody please explain how people I don't know and have never spoken to appear on my "friends" list?

It takes all kinds, and apparently we gotem. Only thing I can figure is that your pic and a partial profile shows up when they sign on and they liked what they saw. They may have tried to contact you but got caught in your mail controls if you use them. Either that or they are just shy and want you to contact them ? It is hard to figure, just throwing a couple ideas out there. T

don't you have to click on 'accept', 'accept and add to friends circle' or 'reject'? I think some people just add random people to up their friends count..kinda like what I've seen on facebook, myspace, etc

Are you sure you aren't confusing the friends list with the admirers list? Anyone can put themselves on your list of admirers. But with the friends list, you have to invite someone, then they have to accept. (I think)

Right. The admirer can be one without your approval, same with those who wish to get notification of new journal entries and a friend must be accepted.

in my early days at CM i was approached to be a 'friend' and accepted then tried to contact them about a month later ... to keep in touch and their profile was gone, but their pic was still there. I don't remember how i did it now but emailed support and the sent the info and i deleted it ... now i just decline when approached. My friends know who they are and i them ... don't see the point really.

Yeah.. I find it kind of weird that people want random strangers to appear on their list of friends. I get those requests all the time, I just ignore them. Maybe it is a status thing to want a lot of people on your friends list. On my list now, I have people I know in person, or those I have spoken to in other venues. I prefer a select group over the popularity contest of many many buddies. Kyst
