I have "caged" (ok, technically, I put her in the windowless bathroom with the lights off) mine once. She was basically going beserk in a temper tantrum (for the record, a HUGELY rare occurrence) and sitting in the dark by herself was my way of getting her to slow down and listen to her own headspace. It was not punishment. I put her in the bathroom, told her to kneel and stay there until I returned for her, turned off the lights, then closed the door. I let her stew for 15 minutes. By her assessment and mine later, it was a great idea but not enough time for her to work through everything. Next time I need to do such a thing, it'll be longer now that we both have some experience with it.
