I like the Marketplace books, but I've come to realize it's NOT 'cause of the hot sex ;) I actually like the characters and the way those characters interact. I like that the sex is there, but there's more to the stories than that.

i totally agree... that's why even being bias of my own work i enjoyed it.. i made it where the erotic sex was good and made you squirm when you read it.. but you also got to know the characters... (though the character where based on real people i've met on line and off Doms and subs alike. i took their characters with their permission and when adding them to the story line, i took their real style and added it to the story line)

anyone can write a short story about sex... but when you bring the people out and they grab your attention... the sex just adds to pleasure of getting to know the people and how they became who and what they are).....

ok yep.. i'm bias on this subject matter.. i'll stop...

As a Wellington writer in the scene I am interested in your project. Who exactly is the group putting this together? What is the mailing list? Please tell me more...

I'm curious, but has there been some huge BDSM marketing campaign in New Zealand and Australia lately? Or is there some BDSM - oriented University in Wellington that has everyone in that region of the world writing a thesis?

To answer the OPs question, I don't read BDSM fiction. I am much more interested in reading about how some people deal with the various dynamics of a D/s relationship...different techniques...safety concerns, etc. There seems to be a huge market in the New Zealand area for anything BDSM related...but I don't think there is anything that would convince me to buy fictional BDSM material, unless it were as a gift for someone else.

I noticed that myself. There seems to be a large group of people from that area looking for information on book/thesis writting, but don't seem willing to look up the needed information for themselves.

I have to disagree.

I think it takes a great deal of skill to write quality short fiction.

Just writing sex scenes is an entirely different skill set.

I have 4 collections of short erotic fiction published and my first novel will be out in 2006. These required different approaches to the stories but I would never, ever say that one was better than the other. Just different.

I suppose there is a significant population since Toya and I have been in contact for years and she's told me a bit about the situation there and her three (or are there more now, Toya?) books provide even more information.

Still, potential authors reluctant to do their own research shouldn't be all that thick on the ground [soft smile]
