I LOVE Stephen King.....from the beginning....but I'm not able to get into the Dark Tower series...not much for sci-fi, rather have the horror......but all of his works are great!

I also read the Girl who Loved Tom Gordon.....pretty good book.....finished Duma Key for the second time, I've worn out several duplicate copies of the Stand, Shining, Dreamcatcher, Insomnia, Salems Lot.....have re-read everything of his at least twice.

Uncool?  Well, count me in then.......

I really enjoyed the Stand - but thought he copped out on the ending. Nuclear bomb - please ! *eyes rolling*. After all the mystecysism (sp?) he has to put in a bomb!

I really enjoyed his earlier books - his later books started to read like movie outlines, so i stopped reading them.

IMHO he has never been the same since he quit drinking and doing coke.
I am not a proponent of chemicals for their own sake but he seems to have lost that madcap edge he once had.
Since IT I haven't been much impressed with anything he has written and I found that ending of the dark tower trilogy to be my greatest pop culture disapointment since Return of the Jedi

my only problem with Stephen King isn't the author himself - some of his novels/stories don't translate well on the big screen.  Hollywood loves to take his stories/novels and butcher them for that pseudo happy ending. like most King's stories, there's not much of a "happy" ending (ie the ending of The Cell). i didn't like the movie versions of Needful Things and Room 1408 (totally nothing like the short story) however Misery did stick very close to the book. i cannot wait to see what Eli Roth does to The Cell - loved the book but some apprehensive about the upcoming movie version.

now the tv mini series of his books esp The Stand, i liked very much.

The only good movies of his are the ones that he wrote the screenplay or script to.  Any of the good ones are his.....but his books are so detailed, that making them into a movie is hard.  Look at the Green Mile......almost 3 hours long....but was totally true to the book.  I bawled like a baby when I read the book, and did for the last 30 mins of the movie.  Actually, one of his better movies is one of his first, I believe......it was called Maximum Overdrive...about machines that go nuts and start killing humans......it's probably at least 20 years old.  There is a big rig in the movie that is scary without the plot!
