DesertRat -> New glitch? (11/20/2005 11:38:16 AM)

Why can't I edit my own posts today? Anyone else notice that?

Bob

Wait a minute- I'll check-

seems to be working...

it might just be you-

are you using a funny browser?

Due to recent activity by some users, the powers that be have changed the post editing parameters. Once a post has been made, you only have an hour to make edits. After that, it's there for the ages.

Hi, topcat. I am using IE, which is very unfunny. Here's something weird: I can edit the post above, and will likely have the option to edit this one, but don't have the "edit" button on any of my earlier posts. Even the ones I made late last night.

Ah...thanks, Mod11. I thought that might be the case. I can see the logic there. It prevents us from changing the past a la 1984. A bit frustrating for us obsessive compulsive grammarian types, though.[8|]

Another oddness noted: I edited the post above (post #3) successfully, but the post doesn't have the notation indicating that I edited it. But topcat's post does show that he edited it. This paragraph is an edit and I'll be curious to see if there is a statement indicating I edited the post.

Do the editing restrictions apply only to some of us? Those who have been involved in controversial threads and danced on the edge of moderation? Not criticizing; just wondering?

thanks....Bob

Okay....I think I have the thing figured out. If I edit a post right away...like, to put in a comma or apostrophe....no notation. If a few minutes go by...but less than an hour...there is the usual "edited by" statement.

If I'm being a little to detail-oriented here, I apologize. Sometimes it's a good thing. Sometimes makes me a pain in the ass.

When I last tried to edit something on Sat, I thought I'd just used up my edit quotent or something like that. [:D] Seriously. But later I did think that a post I had seen about people disrupting the flow of the dialog in some threads must have been the real reason. I tend to edit a lot because of visual problems. Most of the time when I edit, (not always the reason mind you,) its because I'm not able to see my mispellings till after I've posted. And sometimes I used it just because I can.

But its good to know I hadn't over used my edit rations. [:)]

Rosa

PS, just testing the edit button, no changes have been made other than this note after my name.

The change applies to everyone, not just certain posters.

I like the new change. I hate it when I post a reply and then the OP changes the post and makes me look like an idiot (I am refering to a few specific threads that are long gone, but still)

krikket -> RE: New glitch? (11/20/2005 3:53:12 PM)

Thanks. i tried to correct my lousy spelling on an earlier post and couldn't so i was thinking i'd lost my mind..not that i have much left to lose, but...lol. Probably not a bad idea however considering some of the "edits" i've seen go down here. :)
cheers,
jimini
