I have just got a new group of oils in- this time from a different company... and it's very strange.

Usually the ginger oil I get has a strong smell- but it is a clean smell, and the oil causes a sensation on the skin.   This new lot smells different.  It's so strong it's rather pungent.  I spilled a drop when I opened it yesterday and I can still smell ginger in the house. But the sensation on the skin isn't the same. I suspect this is more for aromatherapy and not for topical use.

Both say they are 100%  Essential Oil- and precious little else on the bottle.  How do you tell when ordering from a company what kind of essential oil you are getting?

Unfortunately, with mail order products you're dependent on the company's labeling. 100% Essential Oil should mean exactly that, but often you'll find that they're only blended with 100% EO...look for "pure essential". Since purity weighs heavily in ritual and spellwork, you may find some guidance and recommendations for suppliers in your local pagan community.

Sigh.  I'm in a very small town in New Mexico- there isn't a local pagan community. Fortunately there is a great store an hour's drive away where I usually shop which carries the "good" stuff- and I still have a bit.   I was hoping to find some way to shop online and know what I was getting...

Any suggestions for that?

Also- does anyone have suggestions for what to do with aromatherapy oil?  I now have a lot of peppermint, ginger, and cinnamon oil that smells great- but doesn't have the properties I need for what I do with it....

Sigh

be careful with all essential oils. they are quite concentrated and can cause skin irritation and asthma in sensitive people.
