I spent some time mostly monogamous and only recently have started dabbling in real life encounters outside my marriage.  I had plenty of online/phone (mostly phone) intense relationships with power exchange in the last few years, and lots of experience with visuals, and I realized how much the sense of smell, of all things, adds to my experiences.

What is most surprising to me is that I am very obviously familiar with the scent of my man, whether it be cologne or aftershave or even his sweat scent if we're messing around after he exercises - and how different it can be.

I LOVE the way a man smells.  Especially a new cologne, or hair products (for those pretty boys).  YIKES.  It was like a flooding of the senses.

Ladies..are you attracted to men via scent?  How much does that affect you?

Akasha

Opinion from the sub side-  Hell Yes!  It can be his aftershave, the soap/ bodywash he uses, or the smell of his sweat right after a workout (sexual or otherwise). Smell is a powerful sense that tends to hook directly into memories, at least for me.

Hello AAkasha,

The scent of a man can make or break the attraction factor for me.  An applied scent such as cologne or after-shave or deodorant can obviously be changed.  The person's individual body chemistry produces a specific set of phermones.  Diet, drinking and smoking can all be factors too.

Sorry male poking in but , i have to agree and know what your speaking with  only the reverse  gender side .I know before i buy a scent to wear i try it on and see the reactions of mall patrons .I must say it is interesting to see the results of a good , bad and amazing scent  put to the test on random people .Facial expressions and body language does not lie which helps with my purchases .I have had total stranger s come up to me sniff me and say "wow what is that your wearing" in a mall no less , the first few times it happened  i even forgot what it was i  put on at the test counter .just thought i would share .. sorry for the interruption .

@ Wyld: There have been studies saying that smell is the sense most closely linked to memory and emotion.  So you're not alone!

I remember the first scent I ever designated to be my boy's scent was Armani's Acqua di Gio aftershave.  The first time I met him he was wearing it and he uses it damn near daily.  God forbid I walk past a man in a store wearing the same aftershave -- I have to make a conscious effort not to maul him right then and there because of that delicious smell!

The only other aftershave/cologne so far that's really gotten me going I discovered when I was working at Victoria's Secret.  Very Sexy for Men in the cobalt blue bottle is just... AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH MINDBLOWING!  I remember when we put up the father's day display, most of us had never smelled it, so out of curiosity we sprayed it on our wrists... and then spent five minutes standing there just inhaling it in, after which we then had the overwhelming urge to call our boyfriends.  Managers included.    I swear one of the top ingredients must be crack or something because from that point on whenever it was slow we'd all wander back over there like the monkeys to the monolith in Space Odyssey and just... mmmmm.

Needless to say I bought a bottle of it for my boy, and I think it's actually replaced Gio as my absolute favorite aftershave for him, although the two smells are similar to me (VS has a slightly warmer, spicier scent than the Gio) so it's a tough call.

The kicker is that the poor boy himself can't smell a damn thing.  Thanks to a childhood accident his olfactory nerve is snipped cleanly in two, so he has no idea what I'm pouncing him over.

Scent is really important.  I loved (and still do) the scent of my former Master.  I loved it so much that I bought a bottle of his cologne and wore it.  Now I just put it on my cat.  I think I have the only cat on the block that smells like Calvin Klein's Eternity for Men.

My Pet and I are long distance, so scent is a delicacy. Sometimes we swap teddybears (Yea, I sleep with a teddy bear, what of it?). When I have hers, I spend what seems like the whole day sniffing it. Scent is easily taken for granted, but when I smell Amber Romance on a girl, I think "Pet."

Its funny but last night I had a 'reverse scent' thing going on. Yes I am strongly effected by scent and I couldn't sleep because my ex had been sleeping in my bed the last few days.. and the pillows smelled like him. All night I tossed and turned trying to get away from it because when I'd drift off to sleep I'd have nightmares about him.

So eventually I got out of bed and took out my emergency tshirt from my owner. I'd been keeping it in a ziploc bag and the moment I opened it everything inside of me settled with relief. I hugged that tshirt to my face and finally fell asleep.

(My ex slept in my bed because he has been painting the inside of my house upstairs, paint smells make me sick so I'd been sleeping downstairs until last night when he left. I kept dreaming things like him trying to smother me to death, or refusing to let me out of the bed. All because his scent permeated my bed.)

I love it.. and scent can really impact me...

I have a relatively new sometime roomate (we're good friends, the roomate part is new) and when he comes out of the shower, almost every single time I tell him "I'm going to jump you some day just because of that soap you use" ... he's informed me its really nothing special but I love it.

I have things in my guest shower for others to use.. because I like the way they smell...

and I'm an arm pit whore... yum.. nothing better than going into The Eagle on a crowded night and inhaling deeply..

be still my heart.. and all other throbbing parts.. *smirk*

A man carries a unique scent in the area of his testicles - this is the scent that can drive me wild.  I know that part of it is the intellectual - knowing that very few others will ever smell this and so it seems like a special intimacy to be able to recognize it.  It also seems to give off pheromones which can drive me wild.

I can't say a man's scent gets me excited.....for obvious reasons. Though there are a few that turn my stomach.

Scents are a huge deal to me. Most perfumes and colognes give me a terrible headache. I hate air fresheners and other artificial scents. Bed Bath and Beyond, stuff like that......oh just shoot me and put me out of my misery. It's part of the reason I hate malls and department stores.

I reserve the right to bitch at anyone that spends any amount of time near me, about their stench, whether it be body odour or stanky perfume/cologne. If a person smokes they had just better stand a minimum of 20 feet away.

A few perfumes that are subtle, and of course expensive, I do adore.

Did anyone else see this study that came out last week about hormones, scent and attraction? I believe it suggested that taking hormones can affect how others smell to you and might impact who you choose as a sexual partner. If you go off the hormones or your or your partner's hormones change, they you may discover you like their smell less.

I saw a short interview by the lead researcher who said she wasn't claiming that biology (smell) was the only reason we are attracted to people but was part of it.

I learned this one early, thank goodness.  There was this guy I knew when I was in college the first time....he just had the Right Smell.  I can't even describe it, just that it really clicked for me.  (Lesson:  do not think with your nose!  Justdontdoit!)

This is a really personal thing, though, because my BFF's ex and her late husband both had similar smells which I disliked and she loved.  I ADORE her husband, so I got over it.  :)

Scent is just so wired directly into one's brain. And getting conditioned to certain scents sneaks up on you.

I'm working on getting wifey to let me focus on her pleasure and to pleasure her with my mouth. She's interested in the moring, after a trip to the potty. That's the way she's offreing so that's what I'm happy to receive. At first the smell of her urine was offputting. I've grown to appreciate it.

Now when I'm in our bathroom I might catch the scent of her urine and it excites me. It's disconcerting that it should be so. But there ya go.

I read that article last week.  A couple of my partners have been able to tell when I was close to menustration because my body chemistry changed and they could smell a subtle difference.

I had a boyfriend back in high school who thought I smelled best during my period -- which he didn't know I was having but after a few months I started to notice that he held me closer and literally sniffed at me and said "you smell great" during that one week each month.

Not sure if that is the best biological attraction to have if the key is to reproduce.. think ovulation would be the better trigger for that.

That would make more sense, tammy jo.  On a side note, my roommate would have her sex drive spike during her menstrual cycle.  It was literally like she was in heat or something.  For me that time is just too generally uncomfortable to think about sex, cuddling and pampering is the best then.

Please excuse me but the scent of my Mistress drives me crazy.I worship the smell of her body and underarms. The wonderful smell of Mistress's feet is to die for.My chastity device strains while being allowed to sniff her toes prior to preparing my owners bath.
