darkinshadows -> Send a Card - show your support. (11/22/2005 2:10:03 AM)

Every year, hundereds of people are arrested, detained or suddenly 'disappear' for now other reason than for standing by their freedom of choice. Others, because they love their country and what the best for the people in it, their families, friends and commerades.

This christmas, we will be sending out cards to our loved ones, our friends... even those we don't like very much and don't have time for during the rest of the year.

I am begging that you feel able to write to someone you don't know who could do with support, or at least knowing that people are aware of their situation. Believe me - it helps.

Amnesty are running a campaign where you can write to a political prisoner from across the world. All it takes is one card, one stamp and one moment of your time.

It doesn't matter if your not from the UK. It matters that You think of these people, and think about the freedoms you have and that is could quite easily be you.

Thank You all for your time and for spending precious moments reading this message. Please - please - please feel able to spend a few more moments of your precious time to read HERE at AMNESTY and choose whom to write to - be it The Zaatreh family or Irene Fernandez or any of the people listed....

Thank You so much.

Peace and Love

That website has some horrible stories on it. I'll be sending more than one card.

Well, I'm going to commit to 61 cards (including one from me.) This is a wonderful assignment for my students. How important for them to broaden their outlook, especially this time of year. And since I teach English, letter writing falls within the standards! lol

Thank you, darkangel.

what's a good way to word a message that's supportive to the person yet completely non-political/non-religious (since so much of what's happened to them seems to be based off of a political or religious issue?)
