I am going to be getting a genital piercing shortly. I think that I am going to have a lorum. Does anyone have one and just curious what to expect.

TwistedLeather -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/21/2008 2:31:08 AM)

Genital peirces are sharp... then stings. Doesn't last long though, but be careful of the "jump" factor when they do it.

Then you have the weeks you're not supposed to have sexual play. Showers every day with antibacterial soap... which can be quite soothing for short term. And of course, the risk of infection that can take months to heal.

All in all, genital piercings affect people differently. They have a risk of decreasing your sensitivity, but most people tend to lean towards the enhancing sensitivity and enjoyment.

Beyond that, i can't tell you much. But g'luck!

Thank you for that information. I will let every one know how it goes and the outcome of it once I get it done.

i am pierced 44 times.  The sharp stick of a needle going through my body is delightful. Body piercing can be very addictive. As fast as you blink - it will all be over... Good luck to you...

Oh - and don't forget about the warm salt water soaks!  It will speed up the healing process a great deal.

The lorum is a simpler one of the male cock piercing. it is very easy to heal as it is not a very long piercing and not through a heavy (thick) muscle or engorged area.
The major issue you face is sweat and dirt from cock resting on your balls.
Keep it clean (wash) with Betadine or equivalent twice a day, neosporin helps. And go free air as much as possible (off course nude is fun).

When you think on getting your cock head pierced then you will need to worry that is a very long and tough healing item.

do NOT use neosporin. It causes the outer portion to heal faster than the inner portion and that can cause issues. I personally prefer unscented liquid Dial soap. If it is scented, it can get infected (I speak from experience... that business HURTS!). Make sure to wash really well in warm water... And salt water can help, too.

I've heard the opposite for external tissue piercing. (i.e. not tongue, mouth, or vaginal piercing). Why would it be bad if the outside healed faster?

Sunnyfey -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/22/2008 2:51:05 AM)

salt soaks are your friend trust me, use a shot glass, those are perfect for salt soaks

It can trap dirt/bacteria/yeast/ inside the wound, causing the piercing to abcess.

i have to disagree - do NOT use betadine - it's too harsh... do NOT use neosporin - a piercing is a puncture wound and you don't want to seal things in. The best you can do for ANY piercing is to:
-Never touch it without washing hands
-Do NOT engage in oral sex until it's fully healed - lots of nasty germs in saliva
-Wash it 2-4 times a day
-Soak in warm sea salt water (1/4 tsp per 1 cup water) 6 times a day

The more you soak, the faster it will heal. Basically, keep it clean and soaked and you'll be fine. Good luck and enjoy - i agree with torch - piercings can be addictive :)

edited for spelling

Basically, don't soak it in anything saltier than your own tears.

Chamomile compresses are good.  Oitments and creams and anything like that are bad because they block the piercing and can cause bacteria to get stuck inside, even if they're helping the stuff on the outside.

Don't be afraid to go back to your piercer with any questions or concerns.  A good piercer is more than willing to take additional looks at their work and help you figure out if something doesn't feel right.  They're really your best source of knowledge for your piercing and healing process.

Don't be afraid - Piercings are awesome, and this one is going to go great, I'm sure.

I would recommend going to bmezine.com and clicking on the encyclopedia.  They have all the info you could ever want to know (and probably some you don't)  about tattoos and piercings and other body mods,  provided by experts in the business.

hopelessfool -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/31/2008 12:31:32 AM)

All the peircers I know recommend using neosporin or such for as long as a week after the piercing, to take away the pain as well as to put it on the barbell and slide it back and forth into the piercing to heal it faster... but that was just the guys who did 4 of my piercings and my friends 30+ piercings...

RumpusParable -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/31/2008 3:03:14 AM)

No neosporin or anything similar.  It is not only for the healing difference mentioned above, but also that -because it's petroleum based- it seals in the natural and healthy lymph flow and traps bacteria.  Petroleum based products are never, ever to be used for puncture wounds of any type.  If doubt it, ask a surgeon next time at the hospital or doctor's.  Petroleum based products are intended for abrasions and surface cuts.  Any piercer advocating the use of these on a puncture wound does not know enough about their work and the medical considerations of to be piercing others.

Got lucky != did it safest/right.  The body can overcome a lot of done-wrong, that doesn't make what was done right.

hopelessfool -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/31/2008 3:21:17 AM)

RP, I did ask my doctor before I got my nipples done, he said to use it not only through healing but if I were to change the rings early, or to switch barbells to clean them fully, according to him... the ingredients cause the body to rush white blood cells to the area to promote healing... as well as it seals the area off from bactera in the first few days to promote healing and prevent bacteria seeping in, much like you cover a food dish to keep nasty things from getting in.

Ugh. Sliding the jewelry back and forth in the hole will prolong healing and increase the chance of scarring. Using it to transmit foreign material into the wound channel is even worse. Your piercer needs more education.

i totally agree... clean it thoroughly, but DON'T slide the jewelry back and forth! Also, the neosporin - check the instructions - it even says not to use on punctures. All the piercers i know recommend NOT using it. NEVER use petroleum products on punctures - it seals in bacteria.
Someone else mentioned going to bmezine... that's the most up-to-date info you can get from the experts in body mods.

hopelessfool -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/31/2008 1:01:13 PM)

-shrugs- Some recommend it some dont, You seem to be thinking that it can only seal bactera in but when its first done and its all sterile still, it can seal it out. Every peircing place I know of in 5 states use a petrolum base after a pericing to keep the icky stuff out except for two and these two places have the highest rate of infected peircings, as well as rejection. I dont know maybe those 100+ places are doing it wrong. but this is what they suggested to me, my rings healed in 4 months instead of 6 to 9, and there was no complications nor problems. Maybe Im simply just a lucky one, or maybe theres more then one way to skin a rabbit. It really doenst matter because going in to the various shops and saying, people on a forum said your practices are wrong, isnt going to change how they do their business....

apiercedkitty -> RE: Genital Piercing (8/31/2008 2:19:29 PM)

Fair enough... although, i never did recommend going in ANYWHERE to debate the advice they give. i'm just giving my advice as an RN and how we do things in a hospital setting and what i've heard and read from professional piercers - such as Elayne Angel... i've never claimed i had 100% of the answers for anyone but me - just gave my opinion, which happens to differ greatly from yours.
