Let's face it, no matter who the pick was, our far right friends on this list would be crowing about "how awful" that person was. Hell, even if Jesus Christ came back and got picked for VP, they would say that "it just shows that Obama was inexperienced at dealing with Christians, and was trying to make up for it by picking someone who was symbolic of the belief, instead of finding a republican who really knows what Christianity is all about."

I think the pick is fine.

I wonder how folks will react when McCain picks another old, rich, white guy to stand with him? I know the GOP won't be happy... because chances are, he'll be picking one of three possible VP's all of whom are pro choice.

I don't know how others will react to McCain's pick, but I bet you will be here pissing and moaning about it. In fact if Jesus Christ came back and he picked him, you would find something to bitch about.....go figure

Oh and I think it's great that he picked Biden. First smart thing, I have seen the man do.

Just like in the cartoons!

Ah, yeah. Saturday morning in the '60s. Looney Toons and Sugar Bear cereal.

Yup. Just like in cartoons! You'd wake up Saturday morning, watch hyper violent animated shows, eat a bowl of Choco Frosted Sugar Bombs, then at noon, you'd see the body counts from 'Nam... and how Nixon was getting ready to bomb again... either "breakfast", "lunch", or "dinner." ... and your Mom would break down and cry over the lunch table, wondering about your brother and his five other friends who were drafted right out of high school...

Maybe we should, just for nostolgia's sake, ask the CARTOON NETWORK to run the daily body count from Iraq...

He picked Biden to try to mask the fact that he has no experience and no foreign relations credentials at all.

Told you.

You know, I think this might have happened before.  With a one-term governor who had never held national office much less had any foreign policy experience.  His name escapes me though.

Say...

Didn't Biden vote to give the president the authority to liberate Iraq?

Oh yeah, he did!

Thanks for reminding me.

Well then you should have no problem listing the name of all the governors with foreign policy experience...

It's like, "Well what do you know - he picked the old white guy..."

Picking an old white guy who is a Washington insider.  Damn, ever had that deja-vu feeling but you just can't quite put your finger on it?  I'm almost positive this has happened before though.

Imo, Biden is one of the worst choices Obama could have made. He has way too much baggage and will be an easy target for the Republicans, some of the ammo coming from his own words and actions and some from Obama's stated goals, which conflict with Joe's. However, given such VP choices such as Quail and Agnew in the past, it may not make a whole lot of difference in what is shaping up to be a Dem sweep in the fall.

Just curious... wasn't Nixon only president for 1 year during the '60s?  I love your spin on this one.  If anything most of the bombs that Nixon dropped were in the '70s.

Analysis: Biden pick shows lack of confidence

If Obama's mantra is "change", how is Biden not "more of the same"?  Biden is a staunch Democratic loyalist, and, according to the Citizens Against Government Waste, was responsible for $119 Billion of "pork" spending during 2008.

Biden is a foreign policy heavyweight--of that there is no question.  However, that foreign policy heavyweight voted to authorize Operation Iraqi Freedom (something of which Obama has used his vocal opposition to illustrate the caliber of his judgement vis-a-vis all other candidates, including Biden), and, as the analysis notes, his considerable experience in Congress does raise the question of whether the Biden pick hides or highlights Obama's lack of a political resume.

Is Biden a blessing or baggage?

This is going to be a fun election cycle to watch.  The real question here is.  Does Obama try to keep Biden on a short leash and under control, or does he let him loose with the possibility of the common Biden outbursts?

I think Obama would have been better going with a Bayh or even Luger pick.  Then again birds of a feather, plagiarize together.

Just sayin,
Thadius

With this pick, do you think Obama is going to stop talking about the number of houses somebody owns?

Agreed.  Bayh would have been an outstanding choice.  Obama/Bayh would have been a formidable ticket.  I don't see Biden bringing anything to the table to galvanize the undecideds.

Biden has twice sought the Democratic nomination and has twice failed miserably.  In 1988 he was one of the "Seven Dwarves" of the Democratic field.  He was never really competitive in this last primary cycle.  If he's not compelling as a Presidential contender (having thrown his hat into the ring twice), how does he amplify Obama's candidacy?

It is interesting to note that very likely one reason why Cheney augmented Bush's candidacy in 2000 was because it was clear to one and all that Cheney had no intention of ever running for President.  He was the first "true number two" in recent history.
