Here we go again!
The Democrats pick the most LEFTIST person that they can find to run for president and then when they lose they act "surprised."
"Hey! Here's a strategy that *never works*, let's stick with it!"
I'm starting to think that there's something in their subconcious that "needs" to lose.
All their elections seem to be cathartic.
There's the "manic" buildup and very vocal and visable outnumbered supporters then in the second week of November the "depressive" stage that can last for months.
There has to be some type of psychology going on here!
Your thoughts please.

The Democratic Party currently does not have a vision for governing this country.  All one has to do is witness the legislative catastrophe known as the 110th Congress to see just how muddled and befuddled the Democrats are.

Great topic popeye, but I'm not sure it'll work here, on this board.

Too... controversial.

Maybe it is because it is easier to throw rotten tomatoes at a target, than to actually be the target.

In other words, they are able to raise much more money running against something, than actually trying to support something.

It is also the reason why you are seeing the "new candidate that transcends politics" resorting to the same old same old, the Obama campaign is running just as many negative ads as McCain.  As you have already noted, Obama is just the same type of politician, just repackaged in a shiny new wrapper.  Biden even commented on this just a little bit ago, with the speeches and rhetoric is great, but with no substance the appeal will go away.  Just like drinking champaigne is great, but if you drink to much of it with nothing else, you are going to get a hangover.

Is there a concious decision on the part of the DNC for these sort of things? I am not sure.  Then again the way Howard Dean has gone about things, anything is possible.

Sanity, you have to admit that there's a definate pathology or pattern taking place.

People thought the same here about the Labour party in the 80s and early 90s. The Conservatives got complacent with their policies, fairly certain every election would be a formality, then in 97 Labour swept them aside. Its taken the Conservatives ten years to recover enough to be credible again. The same thing could well happen in the US.

I think the Republicans are lucky the election is in Novemeber, as there are signs Afghanistan is about to unravel, which would bring much unwelcome press.

Edited for spelling.

Yeah. I'm arguing with this guy on this other thread, he was probably a die-hard McCain supporter in 2000, now he says McCain is the devil hisself. If they could just uncross their eyes long enough to see reality and discuss things rationally for a minute or two then they might get somewhere, but they deny reality... they cannot see things for what they are.

I'm one of those union member republicans (retired) and would rather see someone else than McCain running. But I'll vote for him..The dems are clueless...

There were candidates to the left of Obama.  Kicinich and Edwards for sure.  Al Sharpton considered a run but decided against it.  With the big pull to the right in the last couple of decades, people have forgotten where the left really is.  Leftie policies are stuff like single-payer health care, living wage, strong unions, fair trade, progressive taxation, a robust social safety net, transparency in government, individual freedom, environmentalism...  The Democratic candidates we've seen in recent decades are far from being lefties.  At most, they're a bit left of center.  They may have one or two leftie opinions, but are really lukewarm at best in their support of leftie issues.  Gore was the closest they've come to a leftie in a long time, but he wasn't a total leftie, or even a half-leftie.

But, but, but, Popeye, Obama is completely different.  He doesn't have that slow, 'I'm so much smarter than you' tone of arrogance in his voice that the focus groups said didn't work for them.  He hits all the talking points about divisive politics.  He even comes in a new color.  It has to work, this time!
