Personally, I feel it's rude and selfish to drop by unannounced.  In the past, I'd run around like Edith Bunker trying to tidy up, throw on clothes, etc. but then I realized how rude it was for people to come by unannounced.  When I decided I would no longer allow this, I informed the repeat offenders and they would still drop by.

Suffice it to say, if you ignore the doorbell they will eventually go away.  Sometimes experience is the best teacher.

Yes, that may sound harsh but my home is not always spic and span and sometimes the repeat offenders would make little snide comments.  So, yeah....they can stay outside.
