I know because it hasn't been discussed...

Anyways my feelings on this are already on the record in a thread called working girl.

The few rapid reactions from the men on this thread (you know, the 'hahahaha' and the macho posturing) are telling enough: it's obvious that it will take mucho stamina to deal with the onslaught from the males, should a such a discussion occur. But I will say this: some of the obsolete attitudes that are still around today are quite dispiriting .

A powerful, educated woman is still seen as a thread to the macho status quo in our society. God forbid the potential president's wife has a successful professional life (as a lawyer, to boot!) besides baking cakes and presiding over charitable work! (And god forbid a woman runs for candidate, too.)

Yeah, Hillary Clinton was SUCH a drag on Bill.....and goodness gracious hardly anybody voted for her during the primaries....

Yeah. Right.

Carly Fiorina, Condoleeza Rice, Madeleine Albright, Janet Reno....yeah, America just can't stand women in positions of power.

Ok, a lot of people can't stand Nancy Pelosi, but that's because she's an arrogant ignorant asinine bitch, and while it is true she would not be a bitch were she a man, she would still be arrogant, ignorant, and asinine, and she would still be just as odious and detestable.

There we go again. Of course some women manage to break and the glass ceiling, and the popular approval: in general though, they don't, or they have to fight much more. Whether you like this or not, it's a fact, and you can argue against facts until you're blue in the face: it doesn't make the facts less factual  .

Speaking of Pelosi, why was there no mention of things like this...

quote:

Rebecca Traister reported for Salon:
A half-hour later, many of the same sentiments were echoed by a woman who sat behind me during Nancy Pelosi's presentation, which was taken over by Code Pink protesters. As the demonstrators shouted for peace, I heard a soft voice say, "Ask Pelosi why she asked Hillary to get out of the race." After the speech was over, I spoke to Pat, a 73-year-old retired teacher who declined to give her last name because her husband is a delegate.
"I'm not anxious to disrupt the convention," she said, adding that she plans to go to a pro-Hillary march on Tuesday, but that "if it gets rowdy, I'll step to the side. I consider that march a thank-you to Hillary for having not given up." Pat said she'll vote for Obama, but that she just wonders, after listening to Pelosi tell the crowd about how there should be more women seated around her at the White House table, "Why, why, why did she ask Clinton to leave the race? And why did she encourage superdelegates not to vote for her? That whole speech she just gave was about how women have to strive for power, but she used her own power to diminish and destroy Clinton's."

And

quote:

Aug. 26, 2008 | DENVER -- "This is where you see the civil war!" burbled Chris Matthews, experiencing near-asphyxiatory pleasure on an outdoor stage in the sweltering Denver heat, while behind him two competing groups, Obama supporters and the PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) backers of Hillary Clinton, chanted "Obama! Obama!" and "Hillary! Hillary!" at each other. Matthews looked as though he might wet himself as a camera panned the crowd, and he declared, "We're at ground zero!"

Just an observation.

I don't have to argue it. The reality is women occupy positions of power everywhere, and guys do not have a problem with it.

That IS the fact. Stating otherwise is fiction.

If you rob someone of their victimhood they're still a victim, because they've been robbed.

Right?

So you haven't really robbed them of anything. Oh wait, then they're no longer a victim.

No...

Hold on...

I dunno guys, given how many male politicians have younger trophy wives a wet T-shirt contest my be easy on the eyes.  But how many women want to look at older, paunchy, out-of-shape men in Speedos?  They have their husbands for that!

It's not my fault they aren't acting like Cougars and going out and netting themselves a trophy hubby.  The option is there.

CL, you forgot low- browed and incompetant.
"Not up to the job" is another that applies to her as well.
I don't have *any* problem with women being in high positions at all as long as they do a good job.

Au contraire, mon cher: being aware empowers people. They become victims when they're blind to the prejudice that they may face in life (and the prejudice is immense: perhaps you're just unable to comprehend what it might be like to break new grounds and to brave and break the consensus. You wouldn't be the first one, nor will you be the last).

Now that would be a sight.

I am still waiting for them to explain how they are getting away with breaking the convention rules, Article 8, Sections F1 and F3.  The ones talking about no secret ballot being allowed during any part of the the convention or committee proceedings, and all voting will be done by voice vote, or by roll call vote where prescribed.

quote:

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_10301038?source=rss

Supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton furiously circulated petitions on the floor of the Democratic National Convention last night, hoping to stave off a plan to hold the convention's roll call at breakfast Wednesday — out of the public eye — sources inside the delegations said.

"My view is we need to come together as a party," DeGette said. "I admire Hillary Clinton greatly, but I think it would be divisive to have a vote on the floor. We need to have a unanimous vote."

I thought the only folks interested in elections being unaimous were dictatorships. So much for democracy in the Democratic party.

Who knew?

Yeah, that kind of bullshit argument really gets me.
"Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Barack Obama, JC Watts, see, that proves there is no racism in America." It's the very same argument.
Let's try this: Benazir Bhutto was PM of Pakistan. That proves women have equal rights in Pakistan and don't get stoned for looking cross-eyed at a man.

Hmmm, for the last hour or so there's been nothing happening!
Lots of empty seats and the narrators are speculating.

Well you have the keynote at 9:30 eastern by Warner, and Hillary isn't on until 10:30 eastern.  The convention center looks like it has a decent crowd at least from what I have seen on Cspan.  Which channel are you watching? Just so I can hear what is being said.

ROFLMAO!

I was thinking of some recent photos of our Governator on the beach in his Speedos.  Granted, he is a former Mr. Universe multiple times but he still is an older man nowadays.
