Hello all

I am sure this has been asked before but will take me ages to trawl through all the posts!

I have been looking to see what is about or what home-made devices can be made that basically someone could use to lock themselves into cuffs etc that will leave them restrained for a period of time before allowing escape?

If anyone has any ideas about home made devices or links to good reasonably priced sites please let me know.

Thanks in advance

I did a thread on "Magnetic locks and bondage play", 5 or 6 days ago. It might be similar to what you ask

You can also do an "ice lock" type mechanism where you don't get out until the ice melts.  Google for instructions

These discussions always concern me. I don't think it is safe or sane to lock oneself up for any period of time alone and not be able to undo it. For example, if you have a device with a two hour timer, what will happen if there is a fire or other disaster? By the time the lock deactivated, you could easily be dead! It takes very little time to be overcome by smoke, heat, etc. Please be careful!

To be fair, by that same line of thinking, I should never go to sleep. What if there was a fire? By the time I woke up, I may already be about to die.

I'm sorry, but you completely missed the point of my comment! I was pointing out that being incapacitated by not being able to move is dangerous. Would you recommend a Dominant left His or Her submissive tied up and went for a two hour drive? Most people do not become incapacitated when they are asleep, and that is what smoke detectors are for. Yes, you might die anyway if there is a fire while asleep, but at least you have a chance to get out! If you are bound and can't undo the bondage, asleep, awake, whatever, you aren't getting out until the time is up! I don't intend to try to prevent anyone from doing this by force, I just wish people would use their brains a bit more and think about things like this using logic before doing it!

I would enjoy reading about someone who incapacitated themselves in cuffs, then died in a fire.  Darwin wins.

Something like this might come in handy in case the ice won't melt fast enough in the fire.

Seriously, I agree with lonleyblueboi.

a lenth of rope frozen in a plastic bottle works good.
use a peice about 2 feet long, fold it half and tape an old battery or some other weight on the double end, masking tape is the best, not to strong.stick the double end in a bottleand fill with water then freeze.leave some of the hoop sticking out of the bottle so you can stick it theough an eye bolt the eye should be big enough for the rope to easily slide through.
the bigger the bottle the stronger it is.note that a 1 quart bottle takes around 12 hours to melt. experiment with bottle size for a timer, test the release on a dry run first to make sure it works.a combanation lock will insure you will at lest get loose buy dawn.keep a phone near by ,it's better to be alive and embarresed than dead.

buy a fire, smoke detector with a light on it and use a combanation lock for an escape method if their is a fire.and have a phone with in reach.
the solo stuff is dangerous, think about how your family would feel finding you dead  all tied up.  nothing beets a dom though.

Nice. Does the same go for people who accidentally kill their partners during breath play, or does it only apply to solo acts?

Typically, people experienced in self-bondage also have a "safety"- a duplicate key that is kept, say, in a container full of oil. Retrieving it will make a big mess which will discourage them from doing it over minor discomfort, but not in an emergency.

There's only one commercial timed-release mechanism that I've seen, which pops up on ebay from time to time. Fairly expensive for what it is- basically a cylinder with eyelets on either end, which is filled with water and frozen. Cuffs are attached to the eyelets, and when the ice melts, the device "opens" and releases the restraints. Due to a limited market and a high liability risk, I would be surprised if anything more sophisticated ever comes around.
