My heart goes out to you. I know how helpless you can feel when a loved one is ill. It is a difficult road sometimes caring for those we love. I would like to recommend two books to you. They were a great source of strength and hope for me when I was dealing with my own serious illnesses....and also when I have cared for the people that I love who were experiencing illness. I recommend them for anyone who has ever faced serious illness...as the person who is ill or the person who is there to support or care for them.

They are:
"Love, Medicine and Miracles" and "Peace, Love and Healing". Both are by Dr. Bernie Segal.

I will keep your family in my prayers.

Adding my thoughts and hugs to you and your family.

and re-iterating what others have said.... take time out for yourself, find someone you can talk with honestly and openly about your fears, it may make it easier to say something to them beforehand such as"I want to vent to you and don't want platitudes or empty phrases, what I would like is for you to listen to me and allow me to talk".... something like that so that it also takes the pressure off them to find an answer or way to make you 'feel better'.

I think I will scream if I am told one more time to "just think positive."

Oh shadows. You must be suffering bigtime. And I think I know what you mean - to be told "If you're going through hell just keep on going" isn't even mildly amusing.

In practical terms all you can do is endure.

I hope it helps to know others are sharing your distress. Whether this link (The CM angels) will help you to cry at all (emotional release is always good news) I don't know - it certainly made me cry. Think of it as calling up the CollarMe support battalions; as you've seen already, they really are there for you; you're not alone.

Sending my best wishes and I pray you get better news than what you are dreading. Like Sundowner said, You are not alone.

shadowsintolight -> UPDATE: It's going to be a long night... (8/29/2008 4:22:22 PM)

Hi everyone.  Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and encouragement.  The appointment this morning was much better than expected.  They still don't know what is wrong with him, other than there is something wrong in his brain, but it was only a cyst on his testicle and there were no masses on the MRI.  There was a "questionable" place on the MRI, but the doctor just wouldn't say anything else about that, other than the neurologist would look at the MRI and go from there.

I hope that you get some good solutions in the upcoming weeks!  My thoughts are with you!

Hey darlin!

Thanks for updating and hope they can find the answers you need soon!

May I just put the whisper in your ear to try and relax and not get too worked up over every test they perform.  I have been attempting in earnest once again to get answers about my condition.  Even with all the tests and procedures, there are blanks.  I would get so upset with all the possibilities indicated by the tests being run that I would often enter into a depression of sorts and my anxiety was through the roof.  Now I have taken the approach to just wait and see.  Whatever the answer is, it beats not knowing.  I can deal with whatever my circumstances when I know what they are.  Until then each day has enough worry of its own.

Continued thoughts and prayers!

What you described in his symptoms is ringing a bell with me....when you see your doctor tomorrow, ask if he's been tested for Guillian-Barre Syndrome.  (Pronounced Gee-yain Bar-ray, with a hard G)  Just to rule it out.  I don't know if the testicular and abdominal masses are related or just a coincidence, but the other symptoms sound a lot like Guillian-Barre.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm with windchymes on this.  GBS can cause the symptoms you described.  To answer the question regarding the abdominal mass, that may be a part of a GBS as well.   Has your husband received any recent innoculations or had any intestinal or viral issues? You may want to insist that he's given a lumbar puncture as well as a nerve velocity test as those are some of the most accurate ways to diagnosis GBS.  If it is Guillain Barre Syndrome, they can try a few things (such as plasmapheresis) which can minimize the severity.

You and yours will definitely be in my prayers.

Good evening Shadows!
Know that you are doing the best you can and give yourself a huge pat on the back for insisting on more tests, more doctors and not settling. One result at a time, one visit at a time. Just keep thinking "We gotta get to the bottom of this and I am NOT going away!!"
My hubby was sick for months while he was working on the road. Finally, it got so bad be just sat in his recliner and was in pain, like chest pain and such. Big stubborn man that he is-refused to go to any doctor, just drinking tea and downing nyquil. Finally, when it hurt to breathe, he let me take him to ER. First doctor said it was COPD and sent us home. We followed up wit our family dr. and she ordered more tests. But before we could schedule, he started hurting MORE and rushed him back to ER. This time I put my foot down and refused to leave. Turned out he had blood clots in his lungs and even moving could loosen them and send them to his brain or heart. He was in ICU for 2 weeks and is now out of work trying to heal and on blood thinners. but you gotta stand up for him and refuse to back down. I wsa in the hallway and they told me that if they sent him home, he could die within days. Sometimes these guys are so stubborn that they do not realize how serious things are. Heck just until last month, he STILL did not know until our doctor made him realize it.
Stay on top of him sweetie and of the doctors. Day by day and test by test. Take a deep breath and go from wakingup to bedtime if you need to. You are always stronger than you think ::winks::
Love,
Zechriel  [sm=flowers.gif]
